Owners and operators of the QuickFlight Free Fall Device
are responsible for the safety and supervision of any person
using the QuickFlight Free Fall Device and are required by the
manufacturer to read, understand, and follow all instructions
in the QuickFlight Free Fall Device Operator Manual regarding
the correct installation and operation of the QuickFlight Free
Fall Device prior to any use.
Failure by the operator to heed any and all instructions,
warnings, and cautions for the correct installation, operation,
care, and maintenance of the QuickFlight Free Fall Device
may result in serious injury and/or death.
—Only install and operate this device in accordance with the
QuickFlight Free Fall Device Operator Manual.
—Always have an emergency plan in place to rescue a
participant in distress.
—Do not alter the line lengths at any time. Do not clamp,
knot, or tie on additional line, with the exception of approved
QuickFlight Free Fall Device accessories.
—Never operate this device with the protective side panels
removed. Always protect the device from the ingress of foreign
objects.
—When not in use for long periods of time, dry the lines and
fully retract into the device. Store in a warm, dry place.
—Always check the Free Fall Device for correct operation prior
to clipping on and descending.
—Do not continue operation unless at least one of the two
lines is fully retracted into the device.
The QuickFlight Free Fall Device should NOT be used by
anyone that is/has:
—Weight over 130 kg (285 lb)
—Weight under 20 kg (44 lb)
—Pregnant
—Any type of heart condition or heart-related issues
—Any type of spinal injury or weak spine condition
—Any other medical condition that would be affected by the
use of the QuickFlight Free Fall Device
INSTALLATION
—Anchor points must be capable of withstanding a minimum
12 kN (2698 lb) load in expected direction.
—Free Fall Device must be attached in such a way as to prevent
accidental disengagement or detachment.
—Install the device on the structure where it can be safely
reached for inspections and servicing.
—Always mount device vertically in accordance with the
QuickFlight Free Fall Device Operator Manual to minimize
dangerous pendulum swings.
—Choose a location that has a non-trafficked landing area
below, and without obstructions that would interfere with
safe operations of the device.
—A fall attenuation surface complying with a 1m critical fall
height per EN1177 and covering an area of at least 2m x 2m
must be used and centered below the device, extending as
required to adequately protect participants from injuries. A
larger surface may be required in windy conditions.
—Ensure that the device has full clearance from obstacles
within its full extended range and is free to swing in all
directions when in use.
—Never install the device where the lines pass over sharp
edges, high friction areas, or obstacles that might restrict free
extension and retraction of the lines. Any areas that may come
into contact with the participant must be padded.
—Ensure that landing areas below this device are free of
obstacles that may inhibit descent.
INSPECTION
—Before use, visually inspect the device, lines, and attachment
hardware for damage, wear, missing parts, incorrect operation,
or any unserviceable conditions, in accordance with the
QuickFlight Free Fall Device Operator Manual.
—Fully extend and retract all lines by hand, ensuring they
extend and retract in a smooth and continuous action with
adequate resistance. During this operation, inspect each
upper webbing line and ripcord for excessive wear according
to the QuickFlight Free Fall Device Operator Manual. Replace
any worn line according to the Operator Manual. Lines that
pass inspection criteria according the the QuickFlight Free
Fall Device Operator Manual may be kept in service.
DO NOT USE THE DEVICE IF IT SHOWS ANY SIGNS OF DAMAGE,
WEAR, OR INCORRECT OPERATION.
—If any sign of damage, wear, or incorrect function exists,
remove the device from duty and contact an authorized
service center for servicing options.
—All maintenance and servicing of this unit is to be carried out
by an authorized service agent only.
—Any unauthorized servicing or maintenance actions will void
all warranties and render the unit not suitable for use.
THIS DEVICE IS REQUIRED TO UNDERGO ANNUAL RE-CERTIFI-
CATION BY AN AUTHORIZED SERVICE CENTER.
USE
—Operator must have read and understood all instructions for
the safe operation of this device prior to any use and must be
present during operation.
—Never exceed the weight range of the device: only to be used
by one person at a time.
—Visually inspect the lines, carabiners, and the device to
ensure that everything is in proper working order.
—Ensure that operators are anchored to the platform at all
times. Participants must be anchored to the platform until
ready to descend.
—Verify that the lines extend and retract properly by extending
and retracting the lines a short distance prior to clipping in.
—Do not start descent unless at least one of the two lines is
fully retracted into the device.
—Never permit lines to wrap around or become entangled with
the neck, arms, legs, other body parts, or loose clothing.
—Connect the carabiners to the designated belay loop(s) of the
participant's harness, making sure that the gates are locked
and oriented in compliance with the Operator Manual. Do
not start descent if any carabiner gate is not fully seated and
locked.
—Never start descent outside of designated safety zone
specified in QuickFlight Free Fall Device Operator Manual.
—Do not pull additional line out of the device for increased free
fall.
—Ensure that the descent path and landing area are clear and
free of obstructions and people.
—When ready to descend, the participant must step straight
down off platform and descend feet first, utilizing their feet
to fend off obstacles that may arise, and prepare for landing.
—Upon landing, unclip the carabiners from the harness and
release the webbing lines to be retracted freely and fully back
into the device.
