TROUBLE EXPERIENCED
Excessive Dross
Tilted Cutting Angle
(not perpendicular)
Excessive Wear of the
Nozzle
or Electrode
Overheating
POSSIBLE REASONS
Too slow cutting speed
(bottom dross)
Too fast cutting speed
(top dross)
Excessive distance be-
tween torch and work-
piece
Cutting current too low
Torch parts are worn
out
Non-genuine Manufac-
turer's parts
Torch position not cor-
rect
Asymmetric wear of
nozzle hole and/or
wrong assemblage of
the torch parts
Air pressure too low
Exceeding system
capability (material too
thick)
Contaminated air
(humidity-oil)
Excessive pilot arc igni-
tions in the air
Improperly assembled
torch
Torch tip contacting
work piece
Damaged or loose
torch head components
Non-genuine manufac-
turer's parts
Exceeding Duty Cycle
of the plasma system

RECOMMENDED SOLUTION
Increase your torch travel speed
Decrease your torch travel speed
Decrease the distance between the torch and the
work piece
Insure system has proper input power source
If used, eliminate or reduce length of extension
cord.
Examine the consumables for wear and replace
worn parts with new Forney consumable parts
Use only genuine Forney consumables for opti-
mum performance
Insure that torch is perpendicular to the work
piece
Check torch consumables for proper installation.
Examine the consumables for wear and replace
worn parts with new Forney consumable parts
Inspect air compressor for proper operation.
Choose thinner work piece material within the
operational limits of the system.
Inspect air compressor for proper operation.
Discontinue false starts without b eing in contact
with the work piece.
Check torch consumables for proper installation.
Follow proper procedures for cutting or piercing.
Check torch consumables for proper installation.
If damaged, replace torch.
Use only genuine Forney consumables for opti-
mum performance
Allow unit to cool with internal fan running,
once cool reduce arc cutting time to below duty
cycle rating of the system.
