Setup Instructions
No Tools Required for Setup
• Unpack the pieces of the unit: LitterMaid™ Litter Box, AC Adapter (packed in
styrofoam), Disposable Waste Receptacles, Carbon Filters, LitterMaid™ Triple-Action
Tool, Use and Care Book and Cleaning Brush (packed with Disposable Waste
Receptacles), plus any optional items including the Paw-Cleaning Ramp, Cat-Privacy
Tent, and Litter Box Carpet.
• Cut and remove the restraints on each end of the Rake, then peel off the protective
tape on the Waste Receptacle Compartment Cover and the Battery Compartment.
Remove the Styrofoam on top of the Rake.
• Place a Disposable Waste Receptacle under the Waste Receptacle Compartment
Cover. Make sure that the front of the Waste Receptacle is under the five tabs (Fig. 1).
There should be no gap between the unit and the Waste Receptacle. Attach the Waste
Receptacle Lid by inserting the pushtabs into the round holes (Fig. 2).

• Peel off the paper strip on the Carbon Filter to expose the adhesive. Place filter
adhesive-side down in the diamond-shaped insert in the center of the Waste
Receptacle Lid (Fig. 3). Close the Waste Receptacle Compartment Cover.
• Use only premium clumping litter. Do not use non-clumping litter, crystal or pearl-like
litters. Fill the LitterMaid™ Litter Box to just below the "Full Line". Do not overfill the
unit or it will not operate properly. Use the fill line on the LitterMaid™ Triple-Action
Tool to check that the litter is at the correct level in the center of the unit (Fig. 4).

• Remove the AC Adapter from where it is packed in the styrofoam and plug it into the
unit. Then plug the cord into a standard electrical wall outlet. Turn the On/Off Switch to
"on" and a red light will appear at the top of the unit. The Rake will automatically run
through its first cleaning cycle and smooth out the litter.

Litter Box Carpet
• Place the assembled unit on the Carpet.
Paw-Cleaning Ramp
• The Paw-Cleaning Ramp has two pivot pins that snap into holes on the sides of the

side facing up. Point the pivot pins toward the Disposable Waste Receptacle end of
the unit. Lift the Paw-Cleaning Ramp and insert one of the pivot pins into one of the
holes. Slightly stretch the other pivot pin to reach the other hole, then insert (Fig. 5).
Tug slightly on the Ramp to ensure that it is firmly in place.

Helpful Information
If you need to acclimate your cat to the LitterMaid™ Litter Box, refer to "Acclimating
Your Cat" in this Use and Care Book (p.5).
If your unit is not working properly, refer to "Troubleshooting" in this Use and Care Book
(p.6).
Batteries (We recommend using batteries only as a back-up):
• Remove the pull-on tabs on the edge of the Battery Compartment to open it.
• Remove the battery door.
• Follow the diagram in the compartment to install 8 "D" cell batteries. (Batteries not
included.)
Just as your alarm clock continues to run on batteries if there is a power failure, the
LitterMaid™ Litter Box will continue to operate as long as batteries are installed.
Sensors:
Sensors (located on interior side panels) must be clean at all times. Wipe Sensors with
a soft, dry cloth to keep them dust free.
