VL6168 – CHARGER FOR TOY BATTERY PACKS, NiMH AND NiCD
1. Introduction
Thank you for buying the VL6168! Please read the manual thoroughly before bringing this device into service.
If the device was damaged in transit, don't use it and contact your dealer.
Your VL6168 can charge toy battery packs from 2 to 10 cells (2.8V to 14V).
2. Safety Prescriptions
• Do not expose this device to rain or moisture and only use it indoors.
• Only insert rechargeable NiCd or Ni-MH batteries. Any attempt to recharge other battery types or non-
rechargeable batteries may result in exploding batteries, injury and a damaged device.
• Do not mix the two battery types (NiCd & NiMH).
• Disconnect the charger from the mains and remove the batteries when it is not being used.
• Do not try to open or repair the charger when it is damaged. Return the charger to your supplier for repair.
3. Operating Instructions
1. Connect the charger with an AC outlet.
2. Select the appropriate charge voltage.
3. Select the appropriate charge current. We recommended to select a charge current between 0.25C and 1C (C =
the battery's capacity).
4. Example : charging a 2.4V / 1200mAh battery pack. The charge voltage is 2.8V, the charge current is 1200mAh x
0.4 = 480mA. Choose the 500mA charge current.
5. Connect the battery pack with the charger. The LED will turn red to indicate the battery pack is being charged.
6. Press the discharge button. The LED will turn yellow to indicate that the discharge process has started.
7. Press the discharge button during the discharge process to switch to the fast-charge mode, as indicated by the
LED (turns red).
8. When you don't press the discharge button during the discharge process, then the charger will automatically
switch to the fast-charge mode once the discharge process is finished. The LED turns red to confirm this.
9. The LED will turn green when the battery pack is fully charged.
10. If the fast-charge process takes more than 6 hours, then the charger automatically switches to trickle charge
mode for safety reasons. The LED will turn green to confirm that the trickle charge mode has been activated.
11. Disconnect the battery pack from the charger.
12. Disconnect the charger from the AC outlet.
