Example of a Bypass Installation

3.5 Bypass Installation

If plumbing size is greater than 2" (5 cm) diameter or if fl ow rates are greater than 120 gpm (455 lpm), the vessel
MUST be plumbed on by-pass. It is recommended that 2" (5 cm) PVC Schedule 40 pipe is used to plumb the by-pass
line. A control valve must be installed to regulate the fl ow through the vessel. It can be installed on the inlet side of the
vessel or between the inlet and discharge side of the bypass piping (see Figure 5).
1.
Make sure the pool pump is turned off.
2.
Remove the temporary cap on the cartridge side of the vessel, and install the Nature
in the box.
3.
Locate a suitable section of pipe in the by-pass line to install the vessel, approximately 17" (43 cm) long, that
conforms to the installation requirements outlined in Section 3.2.
4.
Install tees in the return line to allow water to be diverted to the vessel.
5.
Connect the bypass line from the fi rst tee to the inlet of the vessel and from the outlet of the vessel to the second
tee.
6.
Install a control valve in the return line between the fi rst and second tee or prior to the vessel inlet on the bypass
line to control the water fl ow through the bypass.
7.
Fully open any closed valves, including the control valve, and start the pump diverting water through the new
bypass.
