Ultrasound cleaning is highly effective on hard materials, less so on soft or porous materials.
The harder the surface the more effective the ultrasound brushing action.
Since metals, glass, ceramics and rigid plastic are good sound conductors, they are ideal
materials for ultrasound cleaning.
The ultrasound waves, propagated
through a liquid vehicle cause sudden
pressure changes (compression and
decompression) that cause microscopic
bubbles of gas to implode. This process
is called cavitation.
The bubbles release energy and the
impact of the liquid particles detaches
contaminants from objects immersed in
the liquid.
