VAN DE GRAAFF GENERATOR
Description
Very useful for electrostatic experiments where a continuous source of
high voltage is needed. The aluminum base presents isolated sides made of
plastic for a higher safety. An inner motor allows the continuous movement
of a rubber belt between 2 pulleys, and this produces the charge transfer
from the belt to the metal dome by means of charge collecting combs. The
hollow dome is especially designed with a smooth, polished and free of any
imperfection surface and without any sharp corner or edge to minimize
charge leakage.
The motor operates on AC power supply 220-240 V, 50/60 Hz and is
activated through a on/off switch.
The equipment presents a socket for 4 mm banana plug at the base for
earth connection and another socket at the top for charge transfer or for
attaching accessories. It is supplied complete with accessories and a
discharge sphere with isolating handle.
When bringing earthed discharge sphere sufficiently close to the charge
dome, transfer of the charge from dome to the ground takes place in the
form of an electric spark jumping from dome to the discharge sphere;
under favorable conditions, it can develop electric potential up to 200 kV
with a spark of up to 70mm length.
