PRODUCTS AFFECTED
Force Trolling Motor, 50" and 57" models.
ISSUE
An issue has been identified where the trolling motor may move the boat abruptly and unexpectedly when using the
anchor lock feature.
NOTE: Please reference previous service alert #2078 for additional important trolling motor information

RESOLUTION
Always keep the remote control on your person when using the trolling motor. If the operation of the trolling motor needs
to be changed or stopped at any time, you can press
the mount to stop the propeller.
Using the Garmin® ActiveCaptain® app, all users must update the software on their trolling motor to help avoid issues
with the anchor lock feature. In some cases, the trolling motor will stop the motor automatically, display an error
message, and sound an alert tone.
The update process can take up to an hour to complete, depending on the number of Garmin products installed on the
boat.
Getting Started with the ActiveCaptain App
You can connect a mobile device to a dedicated Wi-Fi network on the trolling motor using the ActiveCaptain app. The
app provides a quick and easy way for you to interact with your trolling motor and update the device software.
1. From the application store on your mobile device, install and open the ActiveCaptain app.

3. Enter a name (SSID) and password for this dedicated trolling-motor network.
Updating Software with the ActiveCaptain App
Updating the trolling motor software also updates the software in all connected peripherals, such as the foot pedal and
remote control.
Software updates may require the app to download large files. Regular data limits or charges from your internet service
provider apply. Contact your internet service provider for more information about data limits or charges.
NOTE: To update the trolling motor, you must connect your mobile device to a dedicated Wi-Fi network on the trolling
motor and use the ActiveCaptain app. You cannot update the trolling motor using a chartplotter.
1. If necessary, set up the trolling motor for use with the ActiveCaptain app

2. Connect the mobile device to the dedicated Wi-Fi network on the trolling motor, and open the ActiveCaptain app.
Connecting to the dedicated Wi-Fi network on the trolling motor provides the app with the information needed to
download the appropriate update files.
3. Disconnect the mobile device from the dedicated Wi-Fi network on the trolling motor and connect the mobile device
to the internet.
4. In the ActiveCaptain app, select My Marine Devices > Download.
