2 Safety Notes
This unit corresponds to the directive
89/336/EEC for electromagnetic compati-
bility.
The unit is suitable for indoor use only.
Protect it against humidity and heat (per-
missible operating temperature range
0–40 °C).
The unit is protected at the measuring
connections against external voltages up
to 25 V /~. Higher voltages may damage
it!
For the cleaning only use a dry, soft cloth,
by no means chemicals or water.
If the unit is used for other purposes than
originally intended, if it is operated in the
wrong way, overloaded or not repaired by
authorized personnel, no liablity can be
taken over for possible damage.
If the unit is to be put out of operation defin-
itively, bring it to a local recycling plant for
disposal.
3 Applications
The LCR-4000 meter serves for measuring
the inductivity of coils (L), capacity of capaci-
tors (C) and the DC resistance of coils and
resistors (R). Furthermore, diodes can be
checked and the Zener voltage of Z diodes
can be found out up to 6.8 V.
4 Setting into Operation
1) Fold out the set-up bracket at the rear
side to obtain a favourable reading posi-
tion.
2) Set the rotary switch (5) to the desired
measuring range.
3) A display is shown. If not, a 9 V battery
must be inserted. If the symbol
played, replace the battery — see chap-
ter 6 "Replacing of Battery or Fuse".
4) After the operation always switch off the
unit with the rotary switch [position "O"
(4)], otherwise the battery will be ex-
hausted unnecessarily.
5 Carrying out Measurements
Always measure a component part sepa-
rately, otherwise the measurement will be
wrong. For this the component part must be
desoldered out of the circuit, if necessary.
By no means measure within a circuit if it
carries a voltage!
The functions of buttons MAX-HOLD (2) and
DATA-HOLD (3) can be used in all measur-
ing ranges:
MAX-HOLD to hold the max. measuring
value in case of a fluctuating display.
DATA-HOLD to hold the measuring value if
the measuring object is disconnected from
the measuring unit.
To activate the function, shortly press the
corresponding button (symbol MAX resp.
is displayed); to switch off the function, press
the button again.
5.1 Measurement of Inductivity
1) Set the rotary switch (5) into the desired
range L.
2) Connect the coil via the enclosed test
leads with the right pair of jacks
(8). Small coils can also directly be insert-
ed into the contact slots (6).
