∙ Clean the appliance (see Cleaning and
care).
∙ Switch on the appliance and, with nothing
inserted, go through at least fi ve toasting
cycles at the maximum temperature
setting.
∙ Allow the appliance to cool down between
cycles.
∙ Note: the operating lever locks down
only when the plug is inserted.
∙ When switching the appliance on for the
fi rst time, the toaster may emit a slight
smell and a little smoke, but this will
disappear after a short while. Ensure
suffi cient ventilation.
Adjusting the degree of browning
The desired degree of browning is
determined by turning the adjustable
browning control knob.
Light: turn the control knob anti-clockwise
Dark: turn the control knob clockwise
For sandwiches, a setting between 5 and 6
is generally recommended.
Operation
∙ Follow the Practical hints when
preparing a sandwich.
∙ Caution: When using the sandwich
holder, grip it only by its handle; its metal
parts become very hot; otherwise there
is a danger of burns.
∙ Open the sandwich holder.
∙ Place the prepared sandwich on one half
of the sandwich holder, then bring the two
halves together.
∙ Adjust the browning control, lower the
sandwich holder into the toast slot and
press the operating lever down.
∙ The indicator light comes on.

∙ Once the pre-set degree of browning has
been reached, the appliance will switch
off automatically and the indicator light will
go out.
∙ Lift out the sandwich holder.
∙ Open the holder and remove the
sandwich.
∙ To achieve regular browning when
toasting several sandwiches in
succession, allow the appliance to cool
down for 60 - 90 seconds after each
cycle.
∙ The toasting time may be shortened as a
result of fl uctuations in the power supply.
∙ Do not cover the toast slots during
operation.
Practical hints
Practical hints for best results when toasting
sandwiches:
∙ A sandwich should consist of two slices of
sandwich bread with a fi lling in between.
∙ All types of fi lling should be sliced (eg
cooked ham), as there is a danger of food
falling down into the interior if other kinds
of fi lling, such as tuna fi sh, are used.
∙ All common types of sandwich bread can
be used.
∙ White bread should preferably be one day
old when it is used for sandwiches.
∙ The slices for the fi lling (cheese, ham
etc) should be cut to match the sandwich
shape.
Interrupting the toasting cycle
If you want to interrupt the toasting cycle,
press the eject button.
