output) on the tape or cassette deck.
— Connect TAPE 1/REC OUTPUT 36 jacks to the input jacks (rec,
input) on the tape or cassette deck.
Video recorder or 2nd cassette deck
— Connect TAPE 2/PLAY INPUT 37 jacks to the audio output
jacks (play, output) on a video recorder or 2nd cassette deck.
— Connect TAPE 2/REC OUTPUT 38 jack to the audio input jacks
(re, input) on a video recorder or 2nd cassette deck.
2nd video recorder
A 2nd video recorder can only be connected for playback purposes.
— Connect VIDEO/AUX 34 jacks to the audio output jacks (play,
output) on a 2nd video recorder.
Connecting
the speakers
It is possible to connect two speaker pairs.
— The speakers should have a rated input power of at least 60 watts
and an impedance
of at least 8 0.
— Only connect the speaker cables when the unit is switched off.
— Connect speaker pair 1 to the SPEAKERS A (43, 44) terminals.
— Connect speaker pair 2 to the SPEAKERS B (39, 40) terminals.
— The connection terminals are designed for speaker cables with a
maximum cross section of up to 12 mm'.
— In order to ensure that the connection is in phase (otherwise the
stereo effect will be lost), only ever connect the terminals on the
speaker cabinets to the terminals with the same colour on the
amplifier.
- The red connection terminal on the amplifier must be connected
to the "+" or red contact on the speaker cabinet.
— The black connection terminal on the amplifier must be con-
nected to the "—" or black contact on the speaker cabinet.
— Connect the left-hand speaker cabinet cables to the Left termi-
nals, right-hand speaker cabinet cables to the Right terminals.
Left and right as viewed by the listener.
Setting
up the speakers
Ideally, the loudspeakers should be placed so that they form an
equilateral triangle. The distance between the two loudspeakers
should be more or less equal to the distance between the loud-
speakers
and the listener.
Headphones
The headphone impedance must be between 8 and 600 N and the
cable plug diameter 6.35 mm. Connect your headphones to jack 2.
To listen on the headphones only, depress buttons 3 and 4 to
release them.
Connecting
the aerial
For optimum reception,
for FM stereo broadcasts, we
recommande connecting the tuner to a high-quality outdoor aerial or
cable antenna.
— If you have an FM aerial with 75 О coax cable, connect it to
jack 29.
— Ifno antenna system is available, you can connect the auxiliary FM
aerial (supplied with the receiver) to terminals 29.
— Connect the AM aerial (supplied with the receiver) for medium-
wave reception
to terminals 30.
Align AM aerial for optimum reception.
— Your dealer will be pleased to help you select the antenna system
best suited to your requirements as well as the aerial cables
required.
Connecting
to the AC power supply
— The unit must be connected either to a mains voltage of 230 V/
50 Hz or 115 V/60 Hz as specified on the rating plate.
— The unit is also live even when it is switched off. In order to
completely separate it from the mains supply, disconnect the
mains plug.
— Ali settings stored in the memory will remain intact even after the
unit is disconnected from the mains for prolonged periods.
Setting-up instructions
To ensure good air circulation, never obstruct the housing ventilation
slits.

DIRECT 18 key must be released.
The BALANCE 8 is correctly set if the sound during mono playback
appears to be coming from a point half-way between the two
Speakers.
Loudness filter
At low volumes the human ear is less sensitive to high and low
frequencies than it is to medium frequencies. By depressing button
19 the tone is automatically adjusted according to the degree of
volume.
Tone controls
— DIRECT 18 key must be released.
— Control 6 can be used to raise (+) and lower (-) the basses;
control 7 raises and lowers the trebles.
Optimum settings depend on room acoustics and speaker arran-
