GENERAL WARNINGS
MAIN CHARACTERISTICS
This is a DETC De-energized tap changer. It means that it CANNOT be operated when the transformer is
energized.
DIMENSION
The dimension reported on attached drawings (when enclosed) are all in mm.
MINERAL OIL TRANSFORMER
All tap changers of our production are considered suitable for operation immersed in transformer oil
according to IEC 60296. For other oils or insulating liquids such as silicone oil, vegetable oils, synthetic oils
and so on, you should consult the technical department of CAPT to verify that the characteristics of the tap
changer fit for purpose.
INSULATING MATERIAL
The insulating material used is Bakelite (laminated paper in pure cellulose with phenolic resins) in thermal
class "E" or the pressboard for high voltage (laminate in pure cellulose paper) in thermal class "A".
SEALS
Standard seals provided by CAPT for all drives are the type NBR / HNBR suitable for mineral oil transformers
and insulating liquid temperatures between -40°C and +105°C and air temperatures between -25°C and
+40°C. On request, we can provide various types seals with suitable compounds at lower temperatures
down to -55°C and higher up to +200°C. These seals more suitable for mineral oil transformers and /
or special oils, can be kind of HNBR, VITON, FLUOROSILICONE, etc. and are able to withstand extreme
environmental conditions such as the arctic climate and the tropical climate.
DRYING PROCESS TEMPERATURE
In the process of drying of the active part of the transformer, different manufacturers apply various methods
of drying process: treatments in the oven, under vacuum in an autoclave, vapour-phase and others. In this
process is usually also included the tap changer. The maximum temperature recommended by CAPT for its
switches is 100-120°C for a maximum of 24÷36 h.
DRYING PROCESS WITH BEVEL GEARS AND CONTROL BOX
It is preferable make the drying process with the tap changer mounted but without bevel gears and drive.
If this is impossible, we recommend not exceeding the treatment described above. When drives are
complete with micro-switches for the electrical block to switch-off the transformer and / or for the remote
transmission of the positions or other electrical components, it is preferable to perform the drying process
of the tap changer without the commands themselves.
CONTACT CAPT
In the following cases, please contact our technical support:
• Drying process temperatures higher than those reported in the previous paragraph.
• In case of conditions like possible storms, earthquake zones, extreme environmental conditions.
