Original Operating Instructions UNIDRIVE
15.4 Connection with the Protective Connecting Element
For additional safety during the use of access equipment the guided-type fall arrester is now attached
to the rear eyelet of the full body harness. The connecting element is equipped with an automatic clos-
ing mechanism and an automatic locking mechanism.
Before starting work, a functional check of the guided-type fall arrester must be carried out without fail.
15.5 Downwards Movement
Before starting the downwards movement it must be ensured that the lifting gear above the user is
tightly stretched.
Using the handwheel or the cordless screwdriver slightly lift the load and switch the travel direction
lever - to red - and slowly let it down.
The loose, unloaded end of the lifting gear is guided through the open eyebolt and stretched tight
downwards. In this position the operator can hold his own weight with one hand with minimal effort.
Now the handwheel can be slowly relieved so that the load is taken over slowly by the manual force
on the free lifting gear end.
By slowly guiding the free lifting gear the operator can now control the speed of the descent and stop it
at any time.
During downwards movement it must be ensured without fail that the connecting element of the
guided-type fall arrester runs freely downwards, too. Should the fall arrester lock it must be freed again
by slight lifting. If attention is not paid it can lead to hanging up of the entry in the safety system, which
basically for a start is not dangerous. In this event, travel so far upwards again with the handwheel
(see Upwards Movement) until the locking of the connecting element is released again. Further down-
ward movement is started again in accordance with the description above.
15.6 Upwards Movement
The changing over of the direction of travel is done by moving the travel direction lever. If the lever is
pointing to the "yellow" position this indicates upwards travel, the "red" position indicates downwards
travel.
The changing over can only be done in the load-free condition of the release head, this means the
person must be held with the hand.
To change from downwards to upwards travel, the travel direction lever must simply be moved to "yel-
low". Upward travel begins immediately with the manual or mechanical lift activation.
