The best effect is reached if the splint is used for 2-3 hours then removed for
minimum one hour to the be re-applied again. The splint can be worn longer, up to 8
consecutive hours is not a problem but the tonus reduction effect will reduce due to
adaptation. If used as a night splint or longer than 3 hours, always check for pressure
marks, irritated skin or edema during that time and afterwards.
Removal
When removing the splint, always deflate the bladder first. The open the straps and
remove it.
Caring instructions and precautions
We recommend that the cover should be washed once a week. Follow the washing
instructions on the white label on the cover and always use the laundry bag.
Patients with sensitive skin, diabetes or poor circulation should be observed. Patients
with allergies should check the material content on the backside of the label on the
cover.
A few patients can get an increase tonus when using the splint. This happens in less
than 1% of the patients. Usually they are the patients that during the first evaluation
show signs that they can't tolerate volar stimulation or pressure. An alternative
solution with a dorsovolar custom made splint can be a solution for these cases.
If you have patients with stiff flexion contractures over 90 degrees in the wrist, there
will usually be a limited success with the Pucci® splint on them. The lever arm of the
platform will be too short to provide an effective prolonged stretch. However it will not
make the condition worse or increase tonus and might be the only solution available.
