Installation
A. IMPORTANT
The gate must be installed in a structurally
sound opening. Never install between two
railings or two stair posts.
Ensure mounting surface (wall, doorframe,
stair post, etc.) is strong, rigid and is smooth,
clean and grease free.
If using gate on a stairway, it must be placed on
the lowest stair on bottom.
1.
Remove gate from carrying case.
2.
Unfold gate by pulling top and bottom rails
away from each other.
3.
Completely unfold gate by pulling until a
"click" is heard on each side. To ensure sides
are locked, push inward. If sides are rigid, gate
is ready for installation.
4. TO ADJUST RAILS
IMPORTANT
Gate uses telescopic top and bottom rails (five
positions at 1
" increments) along with 3
1/4
adjustable corner spindles to achieve appro-
priate gate width. Rails are used for large
adjustments and spindles are used for small
adjustments.
Place gate in opening with handle closed.
Adjust top rail by locating button on underside
of rail, beneath fabric (b).
Push button in and slide sections apart until rail
is locked in position. Bottom rail button is loca-
ted on topside of rail, beneath fabric (c). Push
button in and slide sections apart until rail is
locked in position. Alternate adjusting top and
bottom rails until gate fits loosely in opening.
Top and bottom rails should be equally exten-
ded. It may be necessary to remove gate from
opening to make adjustments.
5. TO ADJUST SPINDLES
IMPORTANT
Spindles are intentionally notched to prevent
over extension.
Red pressure indicators are located on the top
and bottom spindles opposite handle side.
These determine when gate is correctly installed
and when the minimum pressure required for a
safe installation has been achieved.
When red indicators disappear, gate IS installed
correctly. If indicators are still visible when
installation is complete, gate should be readju-
sted or should not be used in that particular
application.
6. BOTTOM SPINDLE
After large adjustments have been made, place
bottom of gate in opening. Extend bottom
spindle until it touches mounting surface.
7.
Press down firmly on handle side of gate
until spring loaded foot (e) engages by touching
floor. You will hear a click when foot is fully
locked into place. Bottom rail should be secure
and red pressure indicator must not be
showing. If it is, extend spindle and/or rail.
Repeat process until bottom rail is secure and
red indicator disappears when foot is engaged.
Tighten locknut toward gate (see Fig. 11).
8. TOP SPINDLES
Open handle by pressing button (f) while
lifting handle (g).
BUTTON MUST ALWAYS BE PRESSED IN
WHEN LIFTING HANDLE. FAILURE TO DO SO
WILL RESULT IN HANDLE MECHANISM
BREAKING.
9.
Extend both top spindles until they touch
each mounting surface. Close handle by
pressing down.
10.
Top rail should be secure and red pressure
indicator must not be showing. If it is, extend
spindle and/or rail. Repeat process until top rail
is secure and red indicator disappears. Tighten
locknuts toward gate (see Fig. 11).
11.
Tighten locknuts toward gate.
12. TO OPEN GATE
Release locking mechanism by pressing
button in while lifting handle. BUTTON MUST
ALWAYS BE PRESSED IN WHEN LIFTING
HANDLE. Grasp top rail and pull gate up on
handle side, releasing foot (e). Remove gate
from opening.
TO REINSTALL
No readjustment is necessary when installing
into same opening. With handle in upright
position, place gate in opening. Press down on
top rail (handle side) to engage foot and close
handle to secure.
