Easy to use hand held Antifreeze / Battery / Cleaning fluids
refractometer, used to measure freezing temperatures and
battery condition. Measures both ethylene- and propylene
glycol.
The refractometer is an optical instrument using the
refracting index in order to determine the concentration of a
fluid.
Battery electrolytes 1.10 (discharged battery) to
1.40 kg/1 (fully charged)
Antifreeze containing propylene glyool 0 to -50 ºC
Antifreeze containing ethylene glyool 0 to -50 ºC
Wiper fluid containing ethanol/isopropanol 0 to
-40 ºC
Method of calibration and operation:
1) Aim the front end of the refractometer in the direction of
bright light and adjust the focus using the eye piece.
2) Adjustment and calibration of null:
Open the daylight lid and place 2-3 drops of distilled water
on the prism. Close the daylight lid, press in order to spread
the water across the entire surface. Make sure there are
no air bubbles or dry spots. Allow the sample of water to
remain on the prism for approximately 30 seconds. Then,
when needed, adjust the calibration screw until the light/dark
boundary coincides with the null line at the very bottom of
the scales. Adjustment of refractometer shall be made under
the condition of 20 ºC surrounding temperature. If working
temperature of the room or environment changes by more
than 5 ºC re-calibration is recommended.
3) Operation procedure after calibration is essentially the
same as the calibration procedure described above. Open
the daylight lid and clean the surface of the prism using
a soft cotton cloth. Place 2-3 drops of the solution on the
prism. Close the daylight lid and press gently, read the
corresponding scale at the light/dark boundary. The reading
of the scale is the value of the solution.
4) After measurement, clean the prism and daylight lid
from remaining solution using a moist cotton cloth. Let the
surfaces dry and carefully store the refractometer in the
supplied storage box.
Maintenance:
1) Adjustment of null: Liquid solution and refractometer
specimen shall have the same temperature. If temperature
varies heavily calibration shall be carried out every 30
