1. After opening the rear tailgate, remove both taillight housing assemblies. This is done by removing the bolts
for both the driver and passenger side taillights and carefully prying the taillight housing assembly away from
the vehicle. Be careful not to break the alignment tabs.
2. Inside the vehicle remove the spare tire compartment cover. Then, remove the rear scuff panel and plastic
storage trays that are surrounding the spare tire.
3. Remove the rubber grommets that surround the taillight harness on both the driver and passenger sides.
Once the grommets are removed, cut a slit in the grommet starting at the center of each grommet and
cutting to the outside of each grommet.
4. On the driver's side, route the T-connector that includes the yellow wire behind the trim panel and through
the hole where the grommet was previous to its removal. Once the wires have been routed, disconnect the
vehicle wiring harness from the taillight socket and plug the T-Connector in-between the mating plugs on the
driver's side taillight socket and vehicle wiring harness.
5. Now that the T-connector is in place, place the slit grommet over the wire and place the grommet back in the
hole it was removed from.
6. Next, route the T-Connector that includes the green wire to the passenger's side. To do this, run the wire
under the removed rear scuff panel. Avoid all points that may pinch or damage the wire. Repeat step 4 and
5 for the passenger side.
7. Once the T-connectors have been plugged in and the grommets returned, secure the converter box
assembly behind the driver's side taillight housing area that will allow you room to run the red power wire out
the bottom of the taillight assembly area.
8. Locate a suitable ground point on the vehicle's frame near the converter. Make sure to clean the area from
dirt and rust to make good contact with the metal frame. (*NOTE* Avoid drilling into exterior vehicle surfaces
and verify what is behind any surface prior to drilling to avoid damage to the vehicle and to avoid personal
injury.) Drill a 3/32" hole and secure white wire ring terminal with the self-tapping screw thatis provided.
9. After the converter and the white ground wire have been secured, connect the 14 gauge red power wire by
using the provided blue butt splice.
10. Next, route the red power wire out of the lower rear driver's side taillight area. Once under the vehicle,
continue to route the red power wire along the underside of the vehicle to the battery. Secure the red power
wire with the provided cable ties. Be careful to avoid any hot pipes, heat shields, fuel tank and any pinch
points that may damage the red power wire
11. Once the red wire has been run into the engine compartment to the battery, install the fuse assembly by
crimping the second blue butt splice onto the end of the 14 gauge red power wire.
12. With the in-line fuse assembly in place, attach the fuse assembly ring terminal to the positive 12VDC
battery cable clamp bolt.
13. Reinstall the taillight housing assemblies by positioning the vehicle wiring harnesses between the housing
and the vehicle body.
14. Route the 4 flat connector to the receiver hitch and secure it with the provided cable ties or store the 4 flat
inside the cargo compartment of the vehicle and route the connector outside of the rear tail gate when in
use.
15. To protect the connector from moisture and corrosion, apply a small amount of dielectric grease that is
provided to the 4 flat terminals.
16. Attach the provided dust cover to 4 Flat connector.
17. To test, plug completed wire harness into the trailer 4 flat connector.
18. To ensure proper operation, test all functions with the engine running.
Caution: Overloading circuits can cause fires. Don't exceed manufacturer ratings of:
Max. Stop/turn light: (3 amps each side)
Max. Tail lights: (6 amps)
Read vehicle's owner's manual & instruction sheet for additional information.
TIPS:
Grease applied to the wiring terminals on a regular basis will help prevent corrosion.
Always unplug boat trailer connector before backing trailer into the water.
