1.- INTRODUCTION

1.1 General

Thank you for purchasing a MONITOR Series product.
The MONITOR series represents a no-compromise solution for
recording and broadcast studio monitoring. To achieve this, we
have integrated D.A.S.'s experience in transducer design, the most
advanced mechanical design computer tools, and in-house acoustic
modelling software.
This manual contains the required information to make the best use
of your new Monitor 6/8. Please take a few minutes to read it.

1.2 Features

¤
Near-field studio monitor system (MONITOR 6).
¤
Near-to-mid-field studio monitor system (MONITOR 8).
¤
Passive 2-way loudspeaker enclosures for clear full-range repro-
duction.
¤
High frequency units :
¤
Ultrafine aluminium diaphragm tweeters for a uniform
directional response and excellent dynamics.
¤
Ferrofluid soaked voice coils for cooling and linearity.
¤
Linear Quadratic Spherical (LQS™) waveguides control
directivity achieving higher sensitivity, a wide and even stereo
image as well as a smooth transition to the low frequency unit, all
of which translate to greater vocal transparency.
¤
Acoustically transparent fine mesh metal protective
grille.
¤
Low frequency units :
¤
6.5" (MONITOR 6) y 8" (MONITOR 8).
¤
Oversized motor structure and cast aluminium chassis
resulting in maximum efficiency and a fast impulse response, for
solid and well defined bass.
¤
Carefully designed magnetic circuitry minimises build
up of flux modulation, reducing distortion, which means being able
to maintain the timbral signature of low level instruments and voi-
ces in complex musical programmes.
¤
Crossover filter with highest quality components, providing a
coherent summing of low and high frequency units.
¤
Input connectors that comply with international safety standards.
¤
Acoustic enclosure sturdily built out of 15 mm MDF. The natural
Iroko wood side panels complement the series' elegant looks and
act as elements that contribute stiffness to the system, minimising
panel resonances and their associated coloration.
¤
Tuning port located at the back for minimum turbulence noise.
¤
Two M6 mounting points (metric 6) at the enclosure's base to
simplify a safe and vibration-free mounting.

2.- CONNECTIONS

Use speaker cable of adequate thickness, particularly if using long
cables. A minimum of 1.5 mm² (AWG, american wire gauge, 16) is
recommended. Avoid using cables longer than strictly necessary.
Input terminals accept only bare wire. Connect the output of your
amplifier to these terminals using speaker cable. Note polarity on all
connections.
The following illustration shows details for the connection of a ste-
reo system.
An amplifier for a MONITOR 6 should have an RMS power output
between 100 W and 200 W at 8 ohms. An amplifier for a MONITOR
6 should have an RMS power output between 125 W and 250 W at
8 ohms. Use the largest amplifier you can within the recommended
power range.
You may detach the cloth grille, since a fine mesh metal grille pro-
tects the high frequency unit, or leave it on, since the cloth is acous-
tically transparent.
2.1 Equalisation
Avoid extreme equalisation settings. We do not recommend the use
of gain values above +6 dB on a console's EQ.
