3.4 Functionality

DAYCO TENSIOMETER can be used to measure the tension of toothed belts (Timing Belts)
and Poly-V belts (auxiliary drives)
If no accurate position is specified by the vehicle manufacturer, the measurement should
be made on the longest free side of the belt, opposite the tensioner.
The free side should be measured between the point where the belt clears the first pulley
and the point of contact with the second pulley (see picture).
As for the timing belt, it is advised to a second measurement should be carried out after
the driving shaft has been rotated by two turns clockwise and positioned at the top dead
centre of Cylinder nr. 1.
The instrument should be used with fixed, slotted or eccentric tensioners only.
It cannot be used for auxiliary transmissions with automatic tensioners.
