Installation of the cables between the junction box and the control panel may or may not
include the use of conduit. Determine the location in the control panel for entry of the pump
power cable and the float switch cables. If conduit is used, follow all applicable codes for
connecting conduit to junction boxes and control panels.
If conduit is not used, drill the appropriately sized hole, bring the cable into the control panel
and secure the cable with weather tight cable clamp connectors.
PUMP POWER CORD
The pump power cable is a 14 AWG, 4-conductor with ratings of 90°C to –40°C and 600
Volts. The wires in the pump power cable are colored red, white, black and include a green
ground wire. The red wire connects to the auxiliary (start) winding in the motor, the white
wire connects to the main (run) motor winding and the black wire is common to both wind-
ings. The pump power terminal block in the control panel is coded as follows: R – red, W
– white, and B – black.
Make sure all connections to the pump power terminal block are tight and that no wire strands
protrude from any terminal. Also, make sure the terminals do not clamp down on any of the
wire insulation.
FLOAT SWITCH CABLES
In the basin, the bottom float switch is the Off Float, LS-1, the middle float switch is the On
Float, LS-2, and the top float switch is the Alarm Float, LS-3. The wires of the Off Float LS-1
are labeled 9 and 10 ; the wires of the On Float LS-2 are labeled 11 and 12 ; the wires
of the Alarm Float LS-3 are labeled 15 and 16 .
Make sure all connections to the float switch terminal block are tight and that no wire
strands protrude from any terminal. Also, make sure the terminals do not clamp down on
any of the wire insulation.
POWER SUPPLY
Using the 230 VAC or 208 VAC power described in the Power Requirements section, bring
the supply power cable into the control panel and connect the two voltage (hot) lines L1
and L2 to the control panel circuit breakers. Connect the ground wire to one of the provided
ground lugs on the back plate.
CAUTION: If the incoming electrical feed is from a Delta-Connection Power Supply where a
High-Leg could be present, caution should be used to ensure the High-Leg is not connected
to L1 (the voltage between L1 and N should be 115 VAC). Never connect the neutral (N
terminal) of the incoming power terminal block to a ground wire or a ground lug.
For the 120 VAC control circuitry power, connect the 120 Volt line to the 2 terminal of

the terminal block. Connect the neutral wire to the N of the terminal block. Connect the
ground wire to one of the ground lugs on the back plate. Remove jumper wire from L1
to 2 if supplying separate 120 VAC power. A separate neutral wire MUST run from main
power source.
Make sure all connections to the terminal block are tight and that no strands protrude
from any terminal. Make sure the terminals do not clamp down on any of the wire
insulation.
A. PRE-OPERATION CHECK
1. Inspect all wiring and components for damage and check the panel interior for the
presence of contaminants.
2. Make sure no wires will be pinched when the panel door is closed.
3. Check that there is no moisture or debris in the control panel.
4. Verify that the pump is correctly installed in the sump or basin.
5. Make sure no person is near the grinder cutters or touching the pump.
6. Verify that the source voltages are correct at the panel circuit breakers and the terminal
block by re-checking the voltage between L1 and L2 and between 2 and N.
B. OPERATION
After the Pre-Operation Check has been completed, the control panel and the grinder pump
are ready for operation.
1. Check that the overload relay is in the factory-set 14 amp position.
2. Switch on the circuit breaker for the circuit providing pump power.
3. Switch on the control panel circuit breaker.
4. Test pump operation by switching the HOA switch to the Hand position. The pump
should activate and pump water out of the sump or basin. If the pump did not operate
properly, refer to the Troubleshooting Section at the end of these instructions.
TO PREVENT POSSIBLE PUMP DAMAGE, DO NOT OPERATE THE PUMP WITHOUT
WATER FOR MORE THAN A COUPLE OF SECONDS.
5. Switch the HOA switch to Off, then to Auto to check the float switch operation.
6. With the HOA switch in Auto setting, check for automatic operation by activating the
float switches in the following order: LS-1, LS-2 and LS-3. Then de-activate the float
