The Chameleon EXG is fitted with moveable sticky board holders that
can be positioned closer to the UV light source to improve the catch
performance of the machine. This feature is also useful when
installing the unit where wall space is reduced or has obstructions.
The sticky board holders are mounted on adjustable friction hinges,
in drafty environments it may be necessary to stiffen this movement.
This can easily be achieved by tightening the middle black adjusting
screws on the hinges with a pozi-drive screwdriver.
Figure 3
The Chameleon EXG will operate on any single-phase electricity
supply between 100V to 240V (50 or 60Hz). The Chameleon EXG is
designed for permanent installation directly into the buildings
supply. Ensure the power is isolated before attempting installation.
Cable Gland
The cable gland(s) must be mounted with lubricated threads using a
non-conductive grease. Mount the cable gland(s) in such a way as to
prevent accidental rotation or loosening. To ensure a good seal on
the cable, tighten the cable gland nut to 35Nm of torque. The
Chameleon EXG has one nickel plated cable gland ¾" NPT Exd* with
a sealing range capacity diameter 6 to 12mm for non-armoured
cable and one nickel plated stopping plug (¾" NPT Exd). Other
alternative configurations can be considered, just make sure the
gland(s) and cable(s) are of compatible size and rating.
* ¾" NPT is the thread size of the cable gland (National Pipe
Thread) and ExD is the ATEX rating "flameproof".
We recommend the use of a maximum 2.5mm2 flexible wire.
Opening of the light fitting
WARNING! Do not open when powered up, when de-energised wait
55 minutes before opening for servicing or maintenance.
Loosen the locking M4 socket head cap screw using a No3 Allen key
and then remove the threaded cover by turning anticlockwise, see
figure 4. In some instances, the use of a suitable lever may facilitate
the opening of the cover.
WARNING! Do not damage the O-ring gasket

Fitting the cover
Check that no dirt or dust is in the threads of the cover and housing.
If dirt is present, remove the grease and any traces of dirt and then
put new clear grease in the threads of the cover and housing. Ensure
the O-ring gasket is fitted correctly and screw the threaded cover
fully home (clockwise). Lock the cover in place by tightening the M4
socket head cap screw using a No3 Allen key.
RENEWING STICKY BOARDS
Due to insect contamination the sticky boards should be changed
when full or at least every eight weeks. Simply remove the used
sticky boards from the machine by withdrawing them sideways out
of the unit. Should it be necessary to retain the boards for reference
purposes, they may be dated and covered in clingfilm to facilitate
storage.
Remove the release paper from the new sticky boards in a single
swift motion, otherwise they will tend to remain firmly attached.
Should this occur, re-apply the peeled back section and repeat.
Insert the new glue boards between the runners at the top and
bottom either side of the unit, ensuring that they are pushed fully
home. The change is now complete.
MAINTENANCE
To maintain the attractive appearance of the unit, it should be
cleaned/wiped down as often as required. Use a cloth dampened
with water and detergent or a proprietary cleaner. Do not use
aggressive liquids/solvents or scouring pads or abrasives.
To maintain peak effectiveness, change the boards when full or at
least every 8 weeks.
The UV lamps in electric flytraps should be changed at least once per
year (preferably at the onset of increased flying insect activity after
the winter). In areas of high ambient light or where strict control is
necessary, replacement every 6 months will offer improved
performance. Defective lamps must be replaced immediately.
Never use lamps other than the correct type and wattage specified
by the manufacturer. To ensure the best ingress protection of the
enclosure, check the O-ring gasket and change it periodically. At the
Locking Screw
same time, periodic inspection and reapplication of the grease on
LOCKING SCREW
the cover threads is important, as this blocks the flame path out of
the unit and is an essential aspect of the enclosures rating. Check
also the perfect waterproofness of the cable in the gland in the
enclosure, re-torque if necessary.
LAMPS
Lamps are most attractive to the target flying insects when less than
one year old. This is because the UV light emitted by the lamps at a
wavelength of 350-375 nanometres diminishes with use. Light of
this wavelength is invisible to the human eye. The blue/violet
coloured light, which we can see, is not at all representative of the
actual UV light emissions. Daily switching on and off of the lamps
results in an even faster loss of the effective UV emission.
Therefore, it is most effective to leave the lamps switched on
continuously and to change them at least once per year (preferably
at the onset of increased flying insect activity after the winter).
All Chameleon EXG flytraps are fitted with Quantum UV lamps
coated with fluoropolymer shatter-resistant coating, as standard.
Using fly control products which are fitted with Quantum shatter-
resistant lamps with fluoropolymer coating as standard, or as
replacement parts provides the easiest and safest solution for
significantly reducing the risks of contamination from glass
breakages.
UV LAMP REPLACEMENT
WARNING! The Chameleon EXG should be SWITCHED OFF for 55
MINUTES BEFORE OPENING.
To gain access to the control gear and the lamps, loosen the No3
Allen screw on the cover and remove the threaded cover by turning
it anti-clockwise (In some instances the use of a lever may facilitate
the opening of the cover), see figure 4. WARNING! Do not damage
the O-ring gasket. Unplug the terminal block plug. Hold the gear
tray with one hand and remove the split pin with a screwdriver
Caution - The gear tray will be free to drop out of the enclosure once
the split pin has been removed. The gear tray can now be carefully
removed from the enclosure. See Figure 7.

Once you have removed the gear tray you can now remove the
lamps. Grasp the lamp and rotate 90 degrees in either direction.
After two or three clicks are heard, the tube may be removed by
sliding out of the lamp holders. fitting the new tube is a reversal of
the above procedure.
Lamps type is PestWest Quantum 18 watt 24" (610mm) T8 shatter-
resistant. (PestWest part number: 130-000174)
WARNING - To avoid any over-heating inside the luminaire: replace
systematically any defect lamps.
REFITTING THE GEAR TRAY AND CLOSING THE LIGHT FITTING
To maintain the appropriate explosion proof ratings of the
equipment, the Chameleon EXG must be maintained and inspected
every year.
When refitting the gear tray, it is necessary to remove the grease
from the threads of the cover and housing. Verify that there is no
solid or dust debris located in the threads of the cover and housing.
Once thoroughly cleaned, apply a reasonable amount of clear grease
to the threads of the cover and housing. Insert the gear tray back
inside the enclosure and connect the terminal block plug back onto
the fixed terminal block. Push the gear tray fully in and locate the
stop pin back into its original position.
Note: the lamps should be facing outwards.
Screw the threaded cover back on fully and tighten. Tighten the No3
Allen locking screw on the front cover. Do not overtighten the
locking screw as this could damage the enclosure.
