STARTER CURRENT TEST: Connect tester to battery. Be sure battery is fully charged. Ground the ignition, by removing the coil cable from the
distributor cap. Ground the cable to the block with a jumper wire to prevent arcing of high- voltage spark that could cause a fire, someone getting
shocked, or damage to the ignition system. (On GM car with HEI ignition, simply disconnect the small lead connected to the BAT. terminal on the
distributor.) Turn ignition switch on and allow starter to run for 5 seconds. Read the voltage on the VOLT scale while cranking. With car circuit off
and with the tester connected to the battery terminals, adjust LOAD CONTROL knob to give VOLTMETER reading the same as measured while
cranking engine. Read Amps on ammeter and the reading is the starting current of the car.
VOLTMETER: The tester may be used as a voltmeter to troubleshoot electrical problems on any 6 or 12 volt vehicle. Read voltages on volt scale.
MAINTENANCE: The meters operate off of a 9V battery with a battery life of about 1800 hours. To change remove plates on the front sides of the
unit; the battery holders are located on these plates.
The meters calibration should be checked periodically, both these meters can be calibrated by removing the battery plate on the left side facing the
tester. Inside there are two potentiometers for adjusting the readings one for voltage and second for adjusting the current.
