Differential Identification

The terms "Drive Head", "Differential" and "Carrier" are generally
used synonymously and refer to the entire centre removable casting
of a Meritor axle containing the crown wheel and pinion and
differential mechanism.

Occasionally the word "differential" is used in its correct sense to
apply specifically to the internal mechanism which allows the half
shafts to rotate at different speeds.
