1. Lower vehicle exhaust - Using an exhaust hanger removal tool, lower muffler by removing (1) rearmost driver side rubber hanger and (1) rearmost passenger side rubber
hanger. Note: Be sure that exhaust is supported before removing rubber hangers. A spray lubricant or soapy water on rubber hangers makes them slide off metal pins more
easily.
2. Trim Heat Shield – Remove (4) screws securing heat shield and trim as shown in Figure 2 (Ford Escape) & Figure 3 (Lincoln Corsair). Return screws and trimming area to
owner. Note: Heat shield can be trimmed without fully removal.
3. Enlarge access hole – Using a die grinder, enlarge the access holes big enough to fit 1/2'' carriage bolt ①, both sides, see Figure 1.
4. Trim lower fascia (Ford Escape only) – Using a tape measure, marker, and utility knife, measure, mark, and trim the lower fascia as shown in Figure 4.
5. Install hitch – Using tape, secure the flat washer ③ at front attachment holes on frame rails, see Figure 1. Using pull wires ⑥ feed carriage bolts ① and spacers ② into
the vehicle frame rails through the access holes, see Figure 1 & 5. Leave pull wires attached. Raise the hitch and feed pull wire previously installed through hitch bracket
slot. Remove pull wires and loosely install conical washer ④ and hex nut ⑤ to hitch, see Figure 1.
6. Tighten all ½"-13 Gr 5 fasteners with torque wrench to 75 Ft.Lb. (102 N*M).
7. Reinstall exhaust – Raise exhaust back into position.
Note: check hitch frequently, making sure all fasteners and ball are properly tightened. If hitch is removed, plug all holes in trunk pan or other body panels to prevent entry of water and exhaust fumes. A hitch or ball which
has been damaged should be removed and replaced. Observe safety precautions when working beneath a vehicle and wear eye protection. Do not cut access or attachment holes with a torch. This product complies with
safety specifications and requirements for connecting devices and towing systems of the state of New York, V.E.S.C. Regulation V-5 and SAE J684.
