ProSpeed 4 • Slot Racing Controller
User's manual
1. Introduction
Thank you for purchasing our ProSpeed 4 controller from DS Electronic Racing Products. In this product we further
developed the regulation system from previous ProSpeed 3, 2 and 1 models which had been developed by the same
engineering team.
ProSpeed 4 controller like its previous releases works in the same matter, controlling the speed of the motors by means
of pulse width modulation (P.W.M.). Provides a better torque from the motor even in low r.p.m. We suggest you to
carefully read this operation manual for an optimal use of the controller features. If you have any doubt please do not
hesitate to contact your retailer or DS Electronic Racing Products directly.
Yours sincerely, The DS ProSpeed 4 engineering team.
2. Specifications
The main specification from this controllers are:
•
Working voltage between 9V and 22V. This controller will not work properly with power supplies working with
an output below 9v. Voltages above 22V may render your controller permanently damaged.
•
ProSpeed 4 controller allows current peaks up to 15 amperes and a continuous current work of 5 amperes.
Manufacturing specifications
•
ROHS compliant
Contents:
•
1 x ProSpeed 4 Controller
•
1 x optional two-finger trigger
•
1 x user manual
BEWARE!
This controller is designed not to use external brake regulators. PLEASE uninstall any external
braking device before operation!
3. Protections
•
Short circuit protection:
Supports small continuous short circuits; This can be caused by metal chassis touching the metal rails for
instance. In this case the controllers will not be affected (As long as the power unit do not supply more than
5 amperes).
•
Wrong controller plug-in:
If user wrongly connects the controller to the DS Stop & Go Box or to the track controller plug-in system the
controller stops working preventing from damage, unplug and plug correctly and the controller will work
properly.
4. Adjustment procedure and control knobs description
Suggestions for a right setup for a given car:
•
AGGRESSIVE MODE: Minimum position
•
START: Minimum position
•
CURVE: Minimum position
•
AGGRESSIVE MODE setting:
Start running the car. Change the AGGRESSIVE
MODE position until you percieve that in the
curves the motor reacts better to your racing
style, the requirements of the car and the track.
AGGRESSIVE MODE changes the PWM frequency
sent to the motor, each motor has an optimal
working frequency which makes it react more
aggressively or softer to the needs for each situation.
This knob is divided into 10 steps numbered
•
START knob setting:
This knob will allow to modify the entry voltage when we
pull the trigger, it is divided in 16 steps numbered from
MIN, 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,910,11,12,13,14 to MAX, being MIN
the softest starting position stepping forward to the MAX
position which sets the maxiumum output voltage.
•
CURVE knob setting:
The CURVE knob will modify the trigger reaction through
its medium area run. So for the MAX position we'll get a
linear output but if we stepp backward the knob step by
step up to the MIN position we'll get a higher and higher
•
BRAKE knob setting:
This knob will adjust the brake strength. Maximum
position is represented as "+" and minimum position as "-".
Adjust to your need to achieve a more precise braking
style depending on the top speeds and the kinetik
inertias of your car.
5. Warranty

As a general rule we can affirm that experienced pilots
use the AGGRESSIVE MODE at its MAXimum when there
are long and fast curves in the track. In the contrary they
use the MINimum AGGRESSIVE MODE when curves
in the track are short and closed, this makes an easier
driving experience.

In the thumb side of the controller there is a switch to
activate the "Traction control". You'll see the word "OFF"
beside the switch in the PCB board which indicates this
mode is innactive. To turn it on switch to "C-T".
This controller has a 2 year warranty after its purchase.
In case of problems with this controller you have the
right to a replacement or price reduction. For that, you
will need to have the invoice or the delivery ticket (*)
and fill the following form:
•
Removal of warranty seal in the PCB controller
•
Overcharge beyond 22 Volts
•
Water contact, fire damage or any atmospheric
related damage.
•
Impact damage on the PCB.
Also are excluded from warranty all damages caused
by atmospheric catastrophic causes (fire, water,
hurricanes...) and crashes.
(*) In all cases, the rights and warranty years will be regulated
by current law.
