Stepless Speed Control (GSB 13 RE)
The machine runs with variable
speed between 0 and maximum de-
pending on the pressure applied to
the on/off switch 10.
Light pressure results in a low rotational speed
thus allowing smooth, controlled starts.
Do not load the machine so heavily that it comes
to a standstill.
Speed Selection (GSB 13 RE)
With the thumbwheel 9, the required speed can
be selected (also while running).
The required speed is dependent on the material
and can be determined with practical trials.
After longer periods of working at low speed, al-
low the machine to cool by running for approx.
3 minutes at maximum speed with no load.
Changing the Rotational Directions
(GSB 13 RE)
Operate the rotational direction switch 8
only at a standstill.
With the rotational direction switch 8, the rota-
tional direction of the machine can be switched
(when the on/off switch 10 is operated, the rota-
tional direction switch 8 is locked).
C
Right Rotation
Press the rotational direction switch through to
the left stop (for drilling, impact drilling, driving
screws, etc.).
D
Left Rotation
Press the rotational direction switch through to
the right stop (for loosening and unscrewing
screws and nuts).
Drilling and Impact Drilling
Drilling and Driving
Push selector switch 3 to the right.
Impact Drilling
Push selector switch 3 to the left.
The switch 3 notches in distinctly and can be op-
erated whilst the machine is running. Hard metal
drills are necessary when working with concrete,
stone and brick.

Replacing the Drill Chuck
For machines without a drill spindle
locking facility, the drill chuck must be
changed by an authorised after-sales
service shop for Bosch power tools.
Clamp the short end of an Allen key in the drill
chuck.
Loosening the Drill Chuck
G
Place the machine on a firm surface (e. g. work-
bench). Lock the drill spindle with the spindle
locking button 2, hold the machine firmly and
loosen the drill chuck by turning to the left in the
same way as for a screw ( ). Loosen a tightly sit-
ting drill chuck by giving the long shaft of the Allen
key 16 a sharp knock.
Tightening the Drill Chuck
H
The mounting of a drill chuck takes place in the re-
verse order ( ).
The drill chuck must be tightened with a
torque of approx. 30 - 35 Nm.
Practical Advice
Drilling Tiles
Set selector switch 3 to the drill symbol. Wait until
the tile has been completely penetrated before
switching over to the hammer symbol and contin-
uing with impact drilling.
Sharpening Drill Bits
For drilling in metal, use only flawlessly sharp-
ened HSS drills. The appropriate quality is guar-
anteed by the Bosch accessories program.
Twist drills from 3,5 - 10 mm can easily be sharp-
ened with the drill sharpener (see Accessories).
Bench Stand
We recommend the use of a bench stand (see
Accessories) for work where greater precision is
particularly required.
Machine Vice
The machine vice can be obtained as an acces-
sory and clamps work pieces tightly for drilling.
This prevents the work piece from turning and any
accidents this would cause.
