M2 meets the requirements of TS 50131-2-2:2004,
Grade 2, Class II.
2. Initial Installation
(The Guardall M-2 is designed to tolerate a wide range
of environments, however, the normal professional
installation guidelines should be followed:
a) Avoid the main false alarm sources:
* Sunlight shining directly onto the detector,
* Heat sources within a zone,
* Strong air draughts onto the detector.
Mount the detector on a stable surface which is

not subject to vibration. Large objects placed in
front of the detector will cause signifi cant changes in
coverage.
b) Preparation & Mounting
-
Loosen the cover screw and remove the front
cover.
-
Grip the PCB at the connector block and pull
forward while easing the retaining clips apart. Lift
the module clear from the clips on the rear
moulding.
-
Decide on the mounting position and cable routing.
The recommended mounting height is 2.3 m (7ft
6in). If required by the application, the detector
can be mounted at other heights and the lens

adjusted accordingly (section 4c).

Push out cable entry and appropriate mounting
hole knock-outs (A for corner, B for fl ush mounting,
C for low profi le bracket).

Fit the rear moulding to the wall.
c) Wiring
-
Run cables through the cable entry hole.
-
Holding the connector block, fi t the PCB and module
into the rear moulding by inserting it into the
lower retaining clips and clicking firmly into
position.
-
Connect the wires to the PCB terminal block.
-
Do not re-fi t the front cover at this stage.
3. Pulse Count
In potentially troublesome environments the chance
of false alarms can be further reduced by enabling
Pulse Count.
Pulse Count 2 (switches 2 and 3 ON, as supplied):
The fi rst detection will only cause a short LED fl ash (if
enabled, see section 4b). A second detection within 24
seconds is required to generate a unit alarm.
Single shot (switch 2 ON and switch 3 OFF):
A unit alarm will be generated on a single detection.
Pulse Count 3 (switch 2 OFF and switch 3 ON):
The fi rst detection will only cause a short LED fl ash
(if enabled, see section 4b). Two more detections
within 24 seconds are then required to generate a
unit alarm, with the fi rst of these two further detections
only causing a short LED fl ash, if enabled.
Corridor/Curtain mode (switches 2 and 3 OFF):
It is essential that this mode is selected when the unit
is used with either the corridor or curtain lens (see
section 8 Accessories).
This mode should also be selected when the unit is
used in a narrow corridor with the volumetric lens.
4. Checking M-2 Coverage
Proceed with coverage checks as follows:
a) Ensure that voltage at terminals 1 & 2 is between
9-16 V dc.
b) Enable the LED by ensuring switch 1 is set ON
(as supplied).
c) Adjust the coverage: The declination of the
zones can be adjusted vertically by loosening the
main lens locking screws and moving the main
lens. Declination of the zones is indicated on the
module as follows:
A - Main zones horizontal
B - Normal position to give maximum range of
15m at 2.3 m (7ft 6in) mounting height.
C - Main zones fully declined to give approx. 6 m
(20ft) range at 2.3 m (7ft 6in) mounting height
