Introduction
Klein manufactures a full line of occupational protective
equipment (OPE). Each is a part of an OPE system for fall-
arrest, positioning, suspension, retrieval, or combination
application.
To assemble an OPE system, follow the A-B-C Rule. All
personal OPE systems include three major components:
(A) anchorage, (B) body wear (such as a harness), and
(C) connecting device. Klein's Lanyard with Wire Pigtail is
used as a connecting device (the "C" component) in the
system. The wire pigtail connects to the anchorage (the "A"
component) and the lanyard-end locking snap-hook connects
to the fall-arrest OPE harness (the "B" component).
Klein's Lanyard with Wire Pigtail is designed to add an
attachment point to an aerial boom, I-beam, or similar
structural member to make a compatible fall-arrest
anchorage. It offers the strength and abrasion resistance of a
wire aircraft cable connector with the convenience of a
permanently attached fall-arrest lanyard – all combined in
one piece of equipment. Snap-hooks with 11/16" (17mm)
throat openings are attached to both ends of the lanyard.
A typical use for a Klein Lanyard with Wire Pigtail is shown in
Figure 1. This connecting device provides a rugged and
versatile anchorage attachment for many hostile work
environments. The steel cable pigtail has a vinyl coating
which makes it perfect for anchorage connections on all types
of steel structures and transmission towers.

When using any OPE system, you must be sure the entire
system meets OSHA regulations. Be sure the primary
anchorage is identified and evaluated by a competent
person, as defined by OSHA, at the job site. A competent
person must also determine that the type of OPE connecting
device and harness are appropriate for the job.
Be sure to read, understand, and follow all instructions and
warnings attached to and/or packed with all other tools,
devices, and equipment you are using.
The Lanyard with Wire Pigtail is designed to meet OSHA
criteria for fall arrest. The fall-arrest function can be
recognized by the Klein identifying symbol shown below.
