Installation Instructions – RA4X4, RA6X6 Rimless Adapter
7 .
Tighten the housing mounting screws on the rimless
adapter so that the ceiling is sandwiched tightly
between the rimless adapter and the housing. Tighten
the collar mounting screws to secure the installation.
Re-insert the overspray protector for finishing.
The RA6X6 Rimless Adapter comes with mounting screws
for 1/2˝ – 3/4˝ ceiling thicknesses. For ceiling thicknesses
up to 2˝, change the 5/8˝ ceiling screws to the 2˝ screws
supplied with the adapter.
1.
Loosen and remove the (4) connecting screws. Remove
the perforated frame from the assembly.
2.
Remove the (4) 5/8˝ ceiling screws, and replace with
the 2˝ mounting screws. (Figure 6.)
3.
Orient the position of the perforated frame such that
the indicator shows the desired lip height.
4.
Secure the perforated frame to the mounting frame
using the (4) connecting screws. Do not over tighten
the mounting screws.
Plastering
There are a number of techniques that are being used in
plastering. The RA4X4, RA6X6 Rimless Adapter can be
used with a variety of finishes that range from a high glossy
sheen (venetian) to marble plastering. To accommodate a
desirable plastering technique or finish the lip height of the
RA6X6 Rimless Adapter can be adjusted for 1/16˝, 1/8˝,
3/16˝ and 1/4˝ thickness of plaster coats.
1.
To change the lip height, loosen and remove the (4)
connecting screws. (Figure 7 .)
2.
Orient the position of the perforated frame such that
the indicator shows the desired lip height. (Figure 8.)
3.
Secure the perforated frame to the mounting frame
using the (4) connecting screws. Do not overtighten the
connecting screws.

Joint Compound Application
Apply a setting-type joint compound for embedding the
perforated frame. A multipurpose compound is suggested;
additives (such as Trim-Tex Mud-Max) can be used to
improve strength and durability of the drywall compound.
1.
Using a 5˝ knife, apply joint compound across all four
sides. Work across the entire length of the bead with
the knife held at a 45° angle, one edge riding the bead
and the other on the surface of the ceiling (Figure
9.). The compound should extend onto the ceiling a
minimum of 4˝.
N
otee:
After filling all four flanges the bead may have some
lumps of joint compound. To remove, run an 8˝ blade
diagonally across the bead working the blade
sideways.
Second Coat
1.
Allow the first coat to dry overnight. Apply a
multi-purpose compound, following the manufacturer's
instructions and warnings with an 8˝ knife feathering
at least 2˝ beyond the first coat (Figure 10.). Additives
(such as Trim-Tex Mud-Max) can be used to improve
strength and durability of the drywall compound.
Tip – do not sand unless it is necessary.
Third Coat
1.
Allow the second coat to dry overnight. If necessary,
remove imperfections with a knife or sandpaper. Apply
a thin finishing coat with a 10˝ knife using general
purpose drying type joint compound feathering at least
2˝ beyond the second coat.
2.
Allow third coat to dry overnight. Lightly sand finished
joints with fine-grit sand-paper. Hint – remove the
protective cover after sanding and remove any joint
compound on the inside corners of the bead prior to
painting.
