matically, start the programme SETUP.EXE
from the CD.
3) Click "Next >" to start the installation.
To abort the installation now or later, click "Can-
cel", and confirm this in the following window
with "Exit Setup".
In the window "Destination Location", an instal-
lation path will be proposed. Click "Next" to
confirm. To install the programme on a different
path, click "Browse...", select the target path,
confirm with "OK", then click "Next >".
4) Click "Next >" in the windows "Select Compo-
nents" and "Start Installation" respectively. In
the following window, click "Finish >" to termi-
nate the installation.
3.2 IR transmitter and battery
1) Connect the 9-pole plug of the infrared trans-
mitter to a serial output of the PC.
2) Insert a battery (1) of the type CR2032 with its
poles as indicated in fig. 1 into the support (3).

Programming a Message
1) Start the PC programme "Namebadge\E-
Badge" by double-clicking the E-Badge icon on
the Windows desktop or via the Windows start
menu; as a result, the window shown in fig. 2
will appear.
2) In the input field "Com Port" (8), select the se-
rial interface to which the IR transmitter is con-
nected.
3) For programming the main message only:
In the input field "Loop" (9), select the number
of message repeats from "1 Time" to "255
Times" or "Forever".
4) Adjust the scrolling speed with the slider (10)
from "Slowest" to "Fastest".
5) Enter the desired message in the input field
"Display Messages" (12). The main message
may contain a maximum of 150 characters, the
start message a maximum of 80 characters
from the ASCII standard. Below the message
field, the "Character Count:" (13) will indicate
the current number of characters.
6) Switch on the name badge; for this purpose,
set the switch (2) to the upper position (ON).
7) Align the IR transmitter as precisely as possi-
ble to the IR receiver (5) [observe the arrow on
the IR transmitter]. The distance should not ex-
ceed 5 cm.
8) Click "Transfer" (14) to start transmitting the
main message.
For transmitting a start message which will
scroll once whenever the name badge is
switched on, use the shortcut CTRL + F9. The
window "Set Initial Info" will appear. Click "OK"
to start the transmission.
The transmission progress will be displayed as
a bar graph (11). The transmission is termi-
nated when the message "Transmission is
complete" appears.
Important notes concerning transmission:
– Make sure that no direct light will hit the re-
ceiver (5) during a transmission.
– Do not move the transmitter or receiver while
transmitting, otherwise the transmission may
be disturbed.
– If the name badge fails to respond correctly
due to a disturbed transmission or if peculiar
loading
