Installing Additional CPU Modules
1. Power off the system, remove the access panel, and attach an antistatic wrist strap
as described in "Preparing for Installation" on page en-5.
2. Locate the next available empty CPU slot(s) on the motherboard.
Note – All CPU modules in the system must be of the same clock speed. When
installing CPU modules, fill the CPU slots in this order: 2, 1, 3, 0. Slot 0 is closest to
the system bottom when the CPU air guide is oriented on the right side of the CPU
shroud, as shown in the following diagram.
3. Remove the filler panel from the CPU slot(s).
Caution – To ensure proper system cooling and avoid a system shutdown, any
unused CPU slots must contain a filler panel in place of a CPU module.
4. Open the locking levers on the CPU module.
5. Hold the CPU module with its plastic surface facing the system top.
6. Carefully insert the CPU module into the vertical plastic guides of the CPU
shroud until the module engages the motherboard connector.
7. Turn both locking levers down to the locked position to secure the CPU module
into the system.
8. Repeat steps 4 through 8 for any additional modules you are installing.
9. Continue with "Finishing the Installation" on page en-13.
