OBSERVE ALL STATEMENTS AND WARNINGS TO REDUCE
THE LIKELIHOOD OF SERIOUS OR FATAL INJURY.
SAVE THIS SHEET FOR FUTURE REFERENCE.
WARNING:
CHOKING HAZARD
Small parts. Sharp points. Adult assembly required.
WARNING:
BURN HAZARD
• Always check the temperature of the product
before letting your children play with it.
• Remember that the product may cause burns if left
in direct sunlight.
• Always be aware of the sun and weather condtions,
and do not assume that the equipment is safe
because the air temperature is not very high.
WARNING:
STRANGULATION HAZARD
Serious injury or death can occur.
• DO NOT attach jump ropes, clothes lines,
pet leashes or other loose hanging items not
specifically designed for use with this equipment.
• DO NOT allow children to wear scarves, mittens with
cords through the sleeves, or clothing such as capes,
ponchos, or items with drawstrings at the neck.
• DO NOT allow children to wear helmets while
playing on equipment.
• DO NOT allow children to wear items around their
necks such as necklaces, canteens, purses and
binoculars.
Consumer Information Sheet For Playground Surfacing Materials
This information has been extracted from the CPSC publications "Playground Surfacing – Technical Information Guide". Copies of this publication can be obtained by
sending a postcard to the: Office of Public Affairs, U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Washington, D.C., 20207 or call the toll-free hotline: 1-800-638-2772.
• X3.1 The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission
estimates that about 100,000 playground equipment
related injuries resulting from falls to the ground surface
are treated annually in U.S. hospital emergency rooms.
Injuries involving this hazard pattern tend to be among
the most serious of all playground injuries, and have
the potential to be fatal, particularly when the injury is
to the head. The surface under and around playground
equipment can be a major factor in determining the
injury-causing potential of a fall. It is self evident that a
fall onto a shock absorbing surface is less likely to cause a
serious injury than a fall onto a hard surface.
Playground equipment should never be placed on
hard surfaces such as concrete or asphalt and while
grass may appear to be acceptable it may quickly turn
to hard packed earth in areas of high traffic. Shredded
bark mulch, wood chips, fine sand or fine gravel are

WARNING:
SERIOUS HEAD INJURY OR DEATH CAN OCCUR.
Falls to a hard surface can result in serious injury or death.
Do not install playground equipment over hard surfaces
such as concrete asphalt, packed earth, grass, carpet or
any other hard surface. Adult supervision required.
SAFETY INFORMATION:
1. Create an obstacle-free site to reduce injury. Maintain a minimum
distance of 6.5 feet (2 m) from structures or obstructions
(examples: a fence, buildings, garages, houses, low hanging
branches, tree stumps/roots, large rocks, bricks, concrete, laundry
lines, or electrical wires.
2. Choose a level location for the equipment to reduce the likelihood
of the play set tip-ping over and loose fill surfacing materials from
washing away during heavy rains.
3. Fall Height:

surfacing material over concrete, asphalt, packed earth, grass,
carpet or any other hard surface. A fall onto a hard surface can
result in serious injury. Playground Surfacing Materials guidelines
for acceptable fall protection are included In this instruction
sheet (see table X3.1). To maintain the appropriate level of loose
fill material, use containment, such as digging out around the
perimeter and/or lining it with landscaping edging. Installations
of rubber tiles or poured-in-place surfaces (other than loose-fill
materials) generally require a professional and are not "do- it-
yourself"projects.
4. Locate bare metal platforms and slides (metal, plastic or otherwise)
out of direct sun light to reduce the likelihood of serious burns. A
slide that faces north will receive the least direct sunlight.
5. Provide enough room so that children can use equipment safely
(example: for structures with multiple activities, a slide should not
exit in front of a swing).
6. Separate active and quiet activities from each other (examples:
locate sandboxes away from swings or use a guardrail barrier to
separate the sandbox from the movement of the swings).
7. Check to be sure all connections are tight. DO NOT allow children
to play on the product until it is fully assembled.
8. To minimize risks posed by drill shavings, screws are designed
to pierce the plastic and form their own threads. Use caution
not to over-tighten screws or they will not hold parts together
appropriately.

considered to be acceptable shock absorbing surfaces
when installed and maintained at a sufficient depth
under and around playground equipment.
• X3.2 Table X3.1 lists the maximum height from which a
child would not be expected to sustain a life-threatening
head injury in a fall onto five different loose-fill surfacing
materials if they are installed and maintained at a depth of
9 in. However, it should be recognized that all injuries due
to falls can not be prevented no matter what surfacing
material is used.
• X3.3 It is recommended that a shock absorbing material
should extend a minimum of 6.5 ft. in all directions from
the perimeter of stationary equipment such as climbers
and slides. However, because children may deliberately
jump from a moving swing, the shock absorbing material
should extend in the front and rear of swing a minimum

the relative shock-absorbing properties of various
materials. No particular material is recommended over
another. However, each material is only effective when
properly maintained. Materials should be checked

of a material depends on the type and height of the
