Installation and connection

4.1

Installing the sensor

NOTICE
Improper installation
Improper installation can compromise the function of the
sensor and result in damage.
► For this reason, ensure that no strong electrical or
magnetic fields are present in the immediate vicinity
of the sensor.
Notes on installation:
– Any orientation is permitted.
– Install BAW M12MI-BLC35C-S04G flush.
– Install BAW M12MH-BLC70G-S04G with clearance.
– Observe tightening torques, see Fig. 3-1.

Cable routing

Defined ground!
The sensor and the control cabinet must be at
the same ground potential.
Magnetic fields
The sensor operates according to the eddy current
principle. It is important to maintain adequate distance
between the sensor and strong, external magnetic fields.
Cable routing
Do not route the cable between the sensor, controller, and
power supply near high voltage cables (inductive stray noise
is possible).
Inductive stray noise from AC harmonics (e.g. from phase
angle controls) are especially critical and the cable shield
offers very little protection against this.
Cable length
Max. cable length 20 m. Longer cables may be used if
their construction, shielding and routing prevent noise
interference.
