8.3 Bonding the brackets
Apply a small amount of CONTEC lc to the base of the brackets using the
syringe. Use the adhesive sparingly. When this step is completed, wipe
the tip of the syringe and close the lid. When bonding plastic brackets,
use a primer especially for plastic brackets, e.g. CONTEC plastic primer
(REF 163-100-10).
8.4 Application and light curing
Place the brackets gently on the surface of the tooth immediately after
the adhesive has been applied. Then move the brackets into the final
position and press firmly onto the tooth.
Note: If there is a delay in the final positioning, cover the patient's mouth
with a dark mask or something similar to prevent the adhesive from
curing due to the natural light.
Carefully remove surplus adhesive from the bracket base without
dislodging the bracket.
Light cure each bracket for a total of 20 seconds (metal brackets: mesial
and distal; ceramic and plastic brackets: through the bracket). Hold the
light guide 2 – 3 mm away from the tooth; hold it above the interproximal
contact point for metal brackets, and perpendicularly for ceramic and
plastic brackets.
