5.1 SAFETY-SWITCH LiPo
Designed for use in small to medium-sized model aircraft of all
kinds, e.g.:
•
Power models with wingspans up to around 1.8 m /
5 kg all-up weight and 5 – 6 servos
•
Model gliders with wingspans up to around 3.5 m
and 6 – 8 servos
•
Model helicopters up to around .50 / 6S class
•
Petrol engine ignition systems which are normally operated
on the voltage of a four-cell NiXX battery
5.2 SAFETY-SWITCH LiPo TwinBatt
Designed for use in medium-sized model aircraft of all kinds,
e.g.:
•
Power models with wingspans up to around 2.2 m /
5 – 8 kg all-up weight and 5 – 6 servos
•
Model gliders with wingspans up to around 5 m
and 8 – 10 servos
•
Model helicopters of around .50 – .90 / 8 – 10S class
Notes
The recommended model types should only be considered as a
guideline. The maximum possible number of servos varies sub-
stantially according to the input voltage, the installation, the
cooling of the switch, and the servo type and current drain.
The SAFETY-SWITCH LiPo and SAFETY-SWITCH LiPo Twin-
Batt are equipped with linear voltage regulators. The input vol-
tage (approx. 8.0 V with 2S LiPo, approx. 6.5 V with 5 NiXX
cells) affects the maximum possible continuous current (2.0 A
with 2S LiPo / 5.0 A with 5 NiXX cells): the higher the input vol-
tage, the lower the maximum possible continuous current:
Max. dissipated power P = (U
Key to formula:
Max. dissipated power P: 5.0 Watts
U
= battery voltage with 2S LiPo or 5 NiXX cells
BATT
U
= 5.5 V, i.e. output voltage
OUT
I = cont. current: 2.0 A with 2S LiPo │ 5.0 A with 5 NiXX cells
The maximum possible continuous current is largely determined
by the size of the heat-sink and its cooling in the model.
If the switch harness heats up severely (more than 60° C) when
in use, you must assume that the servos are consuming a dis-
proportionate current (power). If this happens, you should check
the servos, the control linkages (excessive friction), pushrods,
etc.
If the battery voltage falls below the regulator output voltage (5.5
V), then the full remaining voltage is switched through directly.
The electronic circuit continues to work down to below 2.5 Volts.

NSTALLATION IN THE
The switch harness should be installed in a position where as
much cooling air as possible can flow over it. For good cooling -
and therefore for good performance - it is important not to cover
the heat-sink, so that heat can be dissipated efficiently (
The switch harness should be mounted in a position in the
model where vibration levels are low.
The switch housing features two countersunk holes for mounting
the unit.
