2. Use pliersto squeezetabs on theclamps,then slidethe clamps
awayfrom thefuel filter.Twistand pull thefuel linesoff of the fuel
filter.See Figure29.

Muffler
Temperature of mufflerand nearbyengineareasmayexceed 150 ° F
(65°0).Avoidcontactwith these areas.
Hydrostatic Transmission
The hydrostatictransmissionis sealedat thefactory and is mainte-
nance-free. T he fluid levelcannot be checkedand the fluidcannot be
changed.
Battery
Batteryposts,terminals,and relatedaccessoriescontainlead and
lead compounds, c hemicalsknownto the Stateof Californiato cause
cancerand reproductive harm.Wash handsafter handling.
The batteryis sealedand is maintenance-free. Acidlevelscannot be
checkedand fluid can notbe added.
• Alwayskeepthe batterycablesand terminalscleanand free of
corrosivebuild-up.
After cleaningthe batteryand terminals,applya lightcoat of
petroleum jelly or greaseto bothterminals.
If removingthe batteryforcleaning,disconnectthe NEGATIVE
(Black)wire from its terminalfirst, followedby the POSITIVE(Red)
wire. Whenre-installing the battery,alwaysconnectthe POSITIVE
(Red)wire to its terminalfirst, followedbythe NEGATIVE (Black)
wire. Be certainthat the wires are connectedto the correctterminals;
reversing them couldresult in seriousdamageto yourengine's
alternatingsystem.
Inspectmufflerperiodically, a nd replaceif necessary.Replacement
parts for themufflermustbe the same and installedin the same
positionas the originalparts.
Clean Engine
Do notuse waterto cleanengineparts.Watercouldcontaminatefuel
system.Use a brushor dry cloth.
Dailyor beforeeveryuse, cleangrass,chaff or accumulated
debrisfromengine.Keeplinkage,spring,and controlsclean.
• Keeparea aroundand behindmufflerfreeof any combustible
debris.
• Keepingenginecleanallowsair movementaroundengine.
• Engineparts shouldbe keptcleanto reducethe risk of overheat-
ing and ignitionof accumulated debris.
Carburetor Adjustment
Thecarburetoron this engineis not adjustable.
