Inline skating
WARNING!
Risk of injury!
Handling the skates improperly may result in injury.
− Let children who use the skates adjust their speed to their
ability.
− Only let children use the skates on level, clean and dry
areas that are free of obstacles such as rocks or branches.
− Make sure that the children using these skates are
wearing suitable knee, elbow and wrist protection as well
as a helmet whilst inline skating.
− Affix reflectors to the clothing of the children using the
skates at dusk or in the dark. Or make sure that the
children wear reflective safety vests.
− At first, practice gliding, turning and braking with the
children using the skates before they attempt to skate fast.
Observing general notes
Provide children with assistance the first time they try the skates. Explain the
following points to them:
− The skates must first be put on properly before they skate.
− Make sure that the laces
The ends of the laces must not hang loosely out of the skates to prevent
them from catching in the wheels.
− First learn to maintain the balance on a speed-retardant surface, e.g. a carpet.
− Practice inline skating on clean, level asphalt once the child has a secure sense
of balance. Find a low-traffic area, if possible with no other road users.
− Only practice turning once your child safely mastered skating straight ahead.
