Leak test: Follow the Instructions for Use of the test unit. Moisten the
mask seal with water. Fit the mask to the test head, see "Fitting the
mask". Inflate test head until the sealing piece fits snugly all round. Seal
the mask connector with the adapter. Generate a negative pressure of
10 mbar. The mask is considered leak-proof if the pressure change
after 1 minute is no more than 1 mbar. If not
Testing with sealed exhalation valve: Remove exhalation valve. Insert
exhalation valve plug and secure with spring clamp. Generate a
negative pressure of 10 mbar. If the pressure change is less than
1 mbar after 1 minute: remove exhalation valve plug, insert new valve
disc and repeat the leak test. If not
Underwater leak test: Immerse test head with fitted breathing mask in
water. Generate a positive pressure of approx. 10 mbar, and rotate the
test head slowly underwater. Escaping air bubbles indicate the source
of any leak(s). Remove the test head and mask from the water.Seal
leak(s). Remove the exhalation valve plug and fit the exhalation valve.
Repeat the leak test.
Checking the opening pressure of the exhalation valve: If using the
Quaestor R 54 300 tester, the opening pressure must be at least
4.2 mbar with a constant flow of 10 litres/minute through the mask. If
not, replace the spring and repeat the test. If using test equipment that
does not permit this constant flow, e.g. Testor or Rz 25, the minimum
opening pressure must be 4.5 mbar.
After testing: Press the button on the connector and disconnect the
adapter. Remove mask from test head and dry if necessary. Replace
protective cap so that it engages.
Special maintenance and care
Replacing the visor: Unscrew the two clamping screws on the left and
right, blocking the hexagon nuts. Pry the clamping frame apart at the
joints with a screwdriver, and then pull the top and bottom halves apart.
Where applicable, remove the support plate. Detach the old visor from
the rubber frame. Insert the new visor first in the upper and then the
lower half of the rubber frame. The central markings on the visor must
line up with the seam on the mask body. Pull the rubber frame to the
right and left over the rim of the visor. Moisten the outside of the rubber
frame and the inside of the clamping frame with soapy water. Press on
the clamping frame, top half first. If necessary, insert the support plate.
Screw the clamping screws into the hexagon nuts and tighten until the
gap between the clamp lobes is 3 to 0.5 mm.
Replacing the mask connector: Pull the inner mask out of the groove
of the screw ring. Open the clip with a screwdriver. Remove the clip
and the parts underneath it (slip ring and support plate). Pull the mask
connector off the mask body. Fit the speech diaphragm and inhalation
and exhalation valves to the new mask connector, and insert the
connector so that the centre markings of the connector and mask body
line up. Fit the slip ring and new clip. Hook the clip into place so that it
is as tight as possible. Push the support plate between the clip and the
slip ring; fit it into the lower clamping frame and align. Use pliers
R 53 239 to squeeze the tip of the clip until the mask connector fits
tightly in the mask. Slot the inner mask into position.
Replacing the valve discs on the control valves: Pull out the old valve
disc towards the inside. Insert the stud of the new disc into the hole
from inside, and pull it towards the visor until the recess of the stud is
visible. The valve discs should make even contact with the inside
surface.
Replacing the speech diaphragm or O-ring: Pull the inner mask out of
the groove in the screw ring. Unscrew the screw ring with socket
wrench R 26 817. Turn socket wrench around and carefully insert it in
the holes of the protective screen. Do not damage the diaphragm. Twist
the speech diaphragm loose and remove it. Remove the O-ring from the
mask connector with extractor R 21 519. Check the speech diaphragm
and O-ring, and replace if necessary. Take care on reassembling: slip
the edge of the inner mask into the groove of the screw ring, so that it
fits round the full circumference of the screw ring. The centre markings
on the mask connector and inner mask must line up.
Replacing the exhalation valve disc: See "Visual inspection of
exhalation valve" above.
Replacing the inhalation valve disc: Dismantle the mask connector
from the mask body. See "Replacing the mask connector". Remove old
valve disc and fit new disc.
Only use original Dräger parts.
Always test for leaks after servicing and/or replacing parts.
Storage
Loosen the straps as far as possible (handle tab). Wipe visor with anti-
static cloth. Pack mask in its bag or box and store it in a dry, dust-free
place where it is not deformed. Storage temperature: –15 °C to 25 °C.
Keep out of direct sunlight and heat. Note DIN 7716 "Guidelines on the
storage, maintenance and cleaning of rubber products".
