Thermocut 650
1. The device is only to be used, installed and
serviced by personnel familiar with it.
2. It must not be used by children.
3. Keep the device and its cable away from the
reach of children.
4. Children must not be allowed to play with
the device.
5. Take care when using the device at loca-
tions where combustible materials are on
hand.
6. When working, constantly guide the device
through the work piece!
7. Do not use it in an explosive environment.
8. Bear in mind that heat can be directed to
combustible materials beyond one's fi eld
of vision.
9. Do not leave the device unattended when
switched on.
10. The manufacturer, his after-sales service or
those similarly qualifi ed are to replace any
damaged cable so as to avoid any hazards.
11. Always disconnect the device from the pow-
er supply when left unattended and before it
is installed, disassembled or cleaned.
12. Note that the wire is still warm after use!
13. Warning: Incorrect usage can result in in-
juries.
14. Only use the supplied heating wires and
original replacement wire
15. Use only in dry locations.
Electrical appliances should not be used un-
interruptedly for more than 15 minutes. Given
overloading, the power unit shuts itself down
(pull out the mains plug). Allow the power unit
to cool for some 3 to 5 minutes. It is then ready
to be operated again.
1 Description of the device
With its hot wire, Thermocut 650 cuts through
styrofoam, Styrodur and many other aerated
- 8 -

plastics. The cutting wire technique is superior
to all other techniques - and particularly the pu-
rely mechanical ones - such as cutting off with
knives and the like. It provides a high degree
of fl exibility and an optimum cut for a host of
applications.
Wire of only a 0.2 mm thickness is electrically
heated to a maximum 350°C for cutting off
purposes. For this, 40 V is provided by a switch-
mode power unit. This voltage is absolutely
harmless from the safety angle and together
with the electronically controlled power supply
of the cutting wire ensures a universal non-
critical cutting temperature. A practical rotary
button on the ergonomically designed housing
is for pre-selecting the temperature as requi-
red conditional upon the material and cutting
speed.
During cutting, the mechanical tension of the
cutting wire - irrespective of its temperature - is
kept constantly by an moveable and spring-loa-
ded clamping bar. This effectively compensates
for a thermally-induced expansion of the wire
during the work. The clamping bar is adjustable
over a wire length of 400 to 650 mm. The ma-
ximum cutting depth is 200 mm. The device is
thus more than adequately dimensioned for lar-
ge work pieces. As such, commercially-availa-
ble styrofoam panels can be easily processed.
The screw clamp is a help in that it enables
the Thermocut 650 cutting wire/frame to be
clamped head-fi rst on the edge of a bench, for
instance. For this, the housing is appropriately
designed and has two special rubber nubs at
the contact face.
