General instructions

Instructions on pulse measurement
The pulse calculation starts when the heart in the display
flashes in time with your pulse.
With ear clip
The pulse sensor uses infra-red light and measures the
alterations in the light permeability of your skin which are
caused by your pulse. Before you clip the pulse sensor to
your ear lobes, rub it strongly 10 times to increase the
blood circulation.
Avoid interference pulses.
• Carefully fasten the ear clip to your ear lobe and
search for the most suitable point for the pulse-taking
(the heart symbol flashes without interruption).
• Do not train directly under strong light incidence e.g.
neon light, halogen light, spot, sunlight.
• Make sure that the ear sensor, including cable, is not
subjected to any vibrations, shocks or wobbling. Using
clips, always fasten the cable to your clothing or, even
better, to a headband.
With hand pulse
A minute tensing, produced by the contraction of the
heart, is detected by the hand sensors and evaluated by
the electronics
• always grip the contact areas with both hands
• avoid jerky gripping
• keep your hands steady and avoid contractions and
rubbing on the contact areas.
With chests strap
Observe the appropriate instructions.
Comment
Only one type of pulse measurement is possible: either
with ear clip or with hand pulse or with chest strap. If
there is no ear clip and/or receiver in the pulse socket,
then the hand pulse measurement is activated. If an ear
clip and/or receiver is contacted in the pulse socket, then
the hand pulse measurement is automatically deactivated.
It is not necessary to pull the plug out of the hand pulse
sensors.
Recovery
Calculation of the fitness mark:
Note = 6 –
P1 = load pulse,
F1 = very good,
Battery Advice
Weak batteries lead to:
• no or poor registering of the pulse
• poor display contrast
• malfunctions

P2 = recovery pulse
F6 = insufficient
Upon changing of the batteries the total kilometres are
lost. Please make a note of your training kilometres befo-
rehand.
Malfunctions in the training computer
Press the SET button longer or change the batteries.

Glossary

Age
here an input for calculation of the maximum pulse.
Fat Burning Pulse
Calculated value of: 65% max. pulse
Fitness Pulse
Calculated value of: 75% max. pulse
Glossary
A collection of attempts to explain.
HI Symbol
If HI appears, a target pulse is too high by 11 beats. If
HI flashes, the max. pulse has been exceeded.
LO Symbol
If LO appears, a target pulse is too low by 11 beats.
Maximum Pulse (Max Pulse)
Calculated value from 220 minus age in years.
Pulse
Registering of the heart beats per minute.
Recovery
Measuring recovery pulse at the end of training. From the
initial and final pulse of a minute, the deviation and a
fitness mark are derived. With the same training, the
improvement of this mark is a measure of the increase in
fitness.
Reset
Deletion of the display content and restarting of the dis-
play.
Target Pulse
Particular pulse value which should be achieved.
