5. Close the steam valve and the drain valve. Tip: For safety reasons the
drain valve is locked on its front side with a set screw. In spite this, if
you open it when the boiler is under pressure at the same time, a slight
amount of steam may escape. The handles for opening and closing the
valves should be removed for safety reasons before operating the steam
engine. These handles can become very hot when the stationary
steam engine is being operated (danger of injury). For that reason
the stationary steam engine is only operated without the
handles mounted. An open ended wrench is included
with the stationary steam engine for opening and
closing the valves.
6. Fill the boiler with a maximum of 900 milliliters or 0.95 quarts of water
(95 % distilled water, 5 % tap water). Pure distilled water attacks different
metals. Pure tap water leads to undesirable deposits (lime) in the boiler.
The water level must be just under the upper mark on the water level
indicator. Tip: Pre-heated water shortens the firing time for the boiler
and lengthens the operating time with a full boiler of water.

7. Close the boiler.
Tighten the seal on the boiler by hand.
8. Fill the four lubrication cylinders for the steam cylinder up to the top
with superheated steam oil. Only use Märklin superheated steam oil.
Tip: The boiler must be refilled each time before you use the live steam
engine. Never try to refill the boiler during operation! The lubrication
cylinders get hot during operation and are under steam pressure!
There is the danger of injury!
