IDENTIFYING HOLES IN THE SLEEVE
Accidental impacts may occasionally perforate the
LimbLogic Sleeve. These perforations may then prevent
optimal sealing of the Sleeve and LimbLogic System.
The compromised area of the Sleeve is usually along
the proximal trimline of the socket, but other areas
may also experience an inadvertent impact. Most of
the holes in the Sleeve can be identified as small
localized depressions in the interior elastomer surface
of the Sleeve. Small frayed spots in the exterior fabric
weave may also be an indication of the damaged
area. Stretching of the Sleeve will accentuate the
failed area, making it easier to see the damaged spot.
hole
If a leak is detected, the patient may reposition the
Sleeve and Cuff so that two holes do not align.
(Refer to the Patient Instructions.) If this does not
eliminate the leak, you may repair the Sleeve as
described in the following section.
REPAIRING THE SLEEVE
To repair a hole in the LimbLogic Sleeve, purchase
a tube of RTV (Room Temperature Vulcanizing)
Silicone Sealant. Below is a list of products that have
been tested and shown to be effective. Other products
may work as well; however, use other products at your
own risk.
1.
Renew Silicone Adhesive 95320; available
through various O&P distributors.
2. Sil-Poxy®; available at www.smooth-on.com.
3. GEO12A Silicone I* Clear Waterproof Silicone;
available at home improvement stores such as
Home Depot®, Lowe's®, and ACE Hardware®.
Preparation
Prepare the area with a light isopropyl alcohol wipe
to clean any debris or residue that could inhibit the
repair. Allow the area to thoroughly dry.
• Because no two applications are quite the same,
a small test application is recommended if
performance of the Sealant is in question.
• A clean, dry surface is essential for successful
adhesive bonding.
Application
1.
Open the tube of Silicone Repair Sealant, and
wipe the tip of the tube with a clean cloth to
remove any residual sealant.
2. At the location of the hole, deflect the elastomer
side of the Sleeve to open the perforation slightly
to allow the Sealant to enter the damaged area.
3. Apply a small dab of Sealant to the hole, then
relax the deflected area to allow the sleeve to
return to its natural shape.
4. Using a gloved finger in a circular motion, work
the Sealant into the hole and smooth the
remaining Sealant around the affected area.
TRIMMING THE SLEEVE
Although normally not necessary, the Sleeve may
be trimmed to a shorter length if desired. Use large
shears, a paper cutter, or a Hand-Held Cutting Wheel
(Part No. 700-TL002).
If using the Hand-Held Cutting Wheel, place the
Sleeve on a cutting board or thick piece of plastic.
Using a straight edge as a guide, roll the cutting
wheel across the sleeve.
Be certain that the socket brim has no sharp edges
and is covered by leather or alternate padding. Sharp
edges on the socket can wear a hole in the Sleeve.
Alpha Products can melt or burn if exposed
to high temperatures or flame. Do not expose
your Alpha product to these conditions.
This Alpha product is intended for use on a
single patient. Use of the product with multiple
patients could lead to cross contamination
