This manual contains important instructions and warnings that should
be followed during the installation and operation of all SUPDM Power
Distribution Modules. Use this manual in conjunction with the owner's
manual for your SmartOnline Rackmount/Tower UPS System. Follow all safety
warnings, including the following:
• SUPDM connection must be performed by qualified service personnel.
• The UPS system must be powered down and completely disconnected
from utility power, external battery module(s) and connected equipment
prior to connecting the SUPDM.
• There are no user serviceable parts. Do not modify or drill holes into
enclosure. Installation, maintenance is by Qualified Service personnel
only.
• This unit is intended for installation in a temperature-regulated, indoor
area that is relatively free of conductive contaminants.
• Use of this equipment in life support applications where failure of this
equipment can reasonably be expected to cause the failure of the life
support equipment or to significantly affect its safety or effectiveness is
not recommended. Do not use this equipment within oxygen-enriched
atmospheres, or within 0.3 m (1 ft.) of a point at which an oxygen-
enriched atmosphere is intentionally vented.

Connecting the SUPDM to the UPS Power Module

Align the SUPDM and Power Module contacts

Secure the SUPDM to the Power Module with screws

Connect the SUPDM to utility power, either by plugging it into an AC wall outlet or by hardwiring it to an appropriate AC power source, as applicable.

Connect your equipment to the UPS either by plugging it in or hardwiring it to the SUPDM.
CAUTION: Hardwiring should only be performed by a qualified electrician.

AC Mains Installation
• Install in accordance with National Electrical Code standards.
• Be sure to use the proper wire size: 6AWG / 6 mm
60C and overcurrent protection for the installation, in accordance with the
plug/equipment rating.
• Over-current protection shall be provided in the end use application,
installed in accordance with local and national electrical wiring regulations.
• In the US/Canada, the plug rating is required to be 125% of the
equipment current rating. Note if the equipment is rated 50A, then 50 x
125% = 62.5A plug is required.
• CAUTION: To reduce the risk of fire, connect only to a circuit provided
with a 50A branch circuit overcurrent protection in accordance with the
National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA 70 and the Canadian Electrical Code,
Part I, C22.1.
• Short circuit back-up protection to be provided by building installation
• Be sure to provide a local disconnect device on any models that are
permanently installed without a plug that is easily accessible.
• For pluggable equipment the mains socket outlet that supplies the
equipment shall be installed near the equipment and shall be easily
accessible.
• Be sure to use conduit for permanently installed wiring to meet National/
local codes as required.
• The total load connected to the PDU must not exceed the maximum load
rating for the PDU.
• Use a properly sized Gland Fitting for flexible cables to provide strain relief.
• Use conduit/gland fittings for permanent connections, according to local/
national regulations.
If AC is present and Bypass Switch is set to "Bypass", these
