Airbag system fault warning light
At "key on", the airbag system failure warning light (red) lights up for approximately four seconds
(initial self-diagnosis stage) and then switches off. If the control unit detects a fault in the warning light,
it memorises the corresponding fault code.
If no system faults are detected at key on and no fault conditions are present in the control unit
memory, the warning light switches off after four seconds of self-diagnosis. Otherwise it stays on.
The warning light remains on or switches on during driving in the following instances:
the control unit detects a fault in the airbag system;
the control unit detects an impact with activation of the system;
when a fault is detected in the warning light connection circuit.
After an impact, when the pretensioners or side bags alone are activated, the warning light stays on
until system operating conditions are restored (replacement of part concerned or control unit restored
using diagnosis equipment).
If the crash causes the front airbag modules to activate, the warning light stays on permanently
because the control unit cannot reset (in this case the control unit must be replaced).
If, during the working life of the control unit, internal operating errors are detected that cannot be reset
using diagnosis equipment, this is signalled by the permanent activation of the warning light.
Passenger side airbag disabled warning light
At "key on", the passenger side airbag disabled warning light (yellow) switches on for approximately
four seconds (initial self-diagnosis stage) and then flashes for a further 4 seconds.
If the control unit detects a fault in the warning light, it memorises the corresponding fault code,
switches on the warning light and keeps the passenger side airbag deactivated.
To restore system operation, use the diagnosis equipment as for the system fault warning light.
NOTE:
The passenger side module is deactivated through the following selection controls. This function is
activated using the instrument panel's "setup" menu as indicated:
with car stationary, press the SET button to access the setup menu;
using the + or – buttons, select the "BAG PASS" function and press the SET button again;
the confirmation request message ("CONF") will appear on the display;
use the + or – buttons to select "YES" (to confirm activation/deactivation) or "no" (to abandon
activation/deactivation);
press the "SET" button again briefly; a message confirming the selection is displayed and you
return to the menu screen. Hold down the button to return to the standard screen without
storing.
When the function is on, the instrument panel warning light stays on.
