TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE
Symptom
The motor hums and runs
slowly, or the motor does not
run at all.
The reset mechanism cuts
out repeatedly or the circuit
breaker trips repeatedly.
The tank does not hold
pressure when the
compressor is off and
regulator closed
There is excessive vibration.
Possible Cause(s)
1. The voltage is low.
2. There are too many devices
on same the circuit.
3. The electrical connections
are loose.
4. The pressure switch
is malfunctioning - the
contacts will not close.
5. The check valve is
malfunctioning.
6. The unloader valve on the
pressure switch is defective.
7. The motor capacitor(s) are
defective.
8. The motor is defective.
9. Use of an extension cord
1. There is not proper
ventilation for the air
compressor unit, or the
room temperature too high.
2. There are too many devices
on the same circuit.
3. The air intake is restricted.
4. The electrical connections
are loose.
5. The pressure switch shut-
off pressure is set too high.
6. The check valve is
malfunctioning.
7. The unloader valve on the
pressure switch is defective.
8. The motor capacitor(s) are
defective.
9. Use of an extension cord
1. There are air leaks in
the fi ttings, tubing on the
compressor, or the plumbing
outside the unit.
2. The check valve is worn.
3. Check the tank for cracks or
pin holes.
1. The fasteners on the pump/
motor assembly are loose.
Corrective Action
1. Check incoming voltage. It should be approximately
120 volts.
2. Limit the circuit to the use of the compressor only.
3. Check all the electrical connections.
4. Replace the pressure switch.
5. Replace the check valve. Do not disassemble the
check valve with air pressure in the tank.
6. Replace the unloader valve.
7. Replace the capacitor(s).
8. Replace the motor.
9. Do not use an extenstion cord. Use a longer air hose
with a larger diameter.
1. Move the compressor to a well-ventilated area.
2. Limit the circuit to the use of only the air compressor.
3. Clean or replace the air fi lter element.
4. Check all the electrical connections.
5. Replace the pressure switch.
6. Replace the check valve. Do not disassemble the
check valve with air pressure in the tank.
7. Replace the unloader valve.
8. Replace the capacitor(s).
9. Do not use an extenstion cord. Use a longer air hose
with a larger diameter.
1. Listen for escaping air. Apply soap solution to all
fi ttings and connections. Bubbles will appear at points
of leakage. Tighten or replace leaking fi ttings or
connections. Use pipe thread sealant.
2. Replace the check valve. Do not disassemble the
check valve with air pressure in the tank.
3. Replace the tank. Never try to repair a damaged tank.
1. Tighten the fasteners.
