2. Safety regulations / Installation notes
• When working on the device, observe the national
safety and accident prevention regulations.
• Ignoring the safety regulations can lead to death,
serious injury or cause damage!
• The device may only be started up, assembled,
modified or retrofitted by an authorized
electrician!
• Before starting work, disconnect the device from
the power supply!
• For devices with 230 V AC control, make sure that
the same phase is used for the rated control sup-
ply voltage as well as the control inputs!
• In emergency stop applications, a higher level
control unit must ensure that the machine cannot
start up again automatically!
• During operation, parts of the electric switchgear
carry high voltages!
• During operation, the protective covers must not
be removed from the electric switchgear!
• Keep the operating instructions!
• The device is associated equipment and may not
be installed in potentially explosive areas. Please
comply with the valid safety regulations for the in-
stallation and operation of associated equipment.
• The safety regulations applicable when motors
are used in the Ex area must be complied with
(ATEX directive 94/9/EC).
• If the "automatic RESET" operating mode is used,
the drive is switched on again after the cooling
time is complete as long as a control signal is pre-
sent. The cooling time is 20 minutes. An auto-
matic restart is not allowed in applications in the
Ex-protection area.
• The equipment may not be exposed to mechani-
cal or thermal influences that exceed the limits as
described in the operating instructions. To protect
against mechanical or electrical damage, the
equipment should, if necessary, be installed in an
adequate housing with a suitable degree of pro-
tection in acc. with IEC 60529/EN 60529. Where
dusts are present, the device must be installed in
a suitable housing (at least IP64) in acc. with EN
50281.
• Installation must be carried out in accordance with
the instructions as described in the operating in-
structions. Access to the circuits within the device
is prohibited during operation.
• The equipment cannot be repaired by the user
and must be replaced by an equivalent. Repairs
can only be carried out by the manufacturer.
• The safety relevant data and features as indicated
in the EU type-examination certificate are listed
here following the technical data.
• The device carries out a diagnostics of the
functions when the drive is being switched on or
when it is switched off. In addition, an (electrically)
skilled person or a skilled worker who is well
acquainted with the relevant standards can
conduct the "Motor protection" safety function
test. For this test, the drive must be operated with
right or left rotation, thus interrupting the current
flow in a conductor (e.g. by removing the fuse in
the L1 or L3 phase). The solid-state reversing
contactor then switches off the drive within 1.5...2
s. The LEDs for right or left rotation extinguish and
the Err-LED and the reply output are set.
• If the connecting cable for remote reset is longer
than 3 m in 230 V AC devices (ELR W3-230AC/
...), it must be shielded.
• The device must be secured with the help of an
access protection in safety-related applications.
• In safety-related applications of 9 A devices (ELR
W3-.../500AC-9I), the connected load should not
be less than 1.2 A.
Area of application:
• In circuits in potentially dust-explosive areas of
zones 21 and 22, it must be guaranteed that the
equipment connected to this circuit complies with
category 2D or 3D or is certified as such.
• This is a product for environment A. In household
environments, this device can cause undesired
wireless problems; in such a case, the user may
be under obligation to implement appropriate
measures.
