Preparation (Continued)
3. Using the following procedure, check
vis cos i ty of spray material before
locking gun onto the paint cup
(Figure 6).
The viscosity stick is
located in storage
compartment.

The Storage Compartment)

a. Dip viscosity stick into material.
Remove stick from cup. Wait until
the material stream becomes drips.
b. Estimate the time interval be tween
the first three drips. The time will
vary de pend ing on the thickness
(viscosity) of the material.
c. The material is adequately thinned
if time interval is about one second.
d. As a general rule, if the time
between drips is more than one
second, the material is too thick.
Add thinning agent, stir thoroughly
and check again for proper viscosity.
4. To tighten and lock the cup, place
retainer arms securely around
retaining pins on the paint cup.
5. Move locking lever clockwise to
locked po si tion. (See Figure 7).

Operation
Always use a practice surface, such as
cardboard, to make test strokes and to
adjust spray pattern and material flow.
1. Keep gun parallel and 4 - 9 inches
from surface of object being sprayed.
(See Figure 8). If the material delivery
is adjusted for a small narrow pat-
tern, it may be necessary to move
closer to the work surface.

2. Move gun in a smooth even stroke.
Begin stroke before pulling trigger
and continue the stroke after
releasing trigger.
3. For best results overlap each stroke
by 25 to 50%.
4. To adjust spray pattern, rotate air cap
to desired pattern position (See
Figure 9).

5. To adjust material flow, turn material
control knob clockwise to decrease
and coun ter clock wise to in crease (See

drying.

Air from the turbine is warm as a result
of normal operation. Finish quality can
be affected on hot, dry days due to
premature drying of some coatings such
as lacquer. Add retarding agents to the
materials to avoid premature dying.
Consult material supplier for proper
retarding agent and mixing procedures.

SPRAYING WITH LACQUER

down strokes
Special handling precautions must be
observed when spraying lacquer.
• When spraying, keep vapors away
from the turbine.
• Use in highly ventilated area. Open
all windows and doors. Use fans to
increase airflow.
• Place the HVLP turbine at it's
maximum distance from the spray
area.
• Do not spray in the direction of the
HVLP turbine.
• Do not spray onto hot surfaces.
• Do not spray toward electrical spark
or charge.
Air from the turbine
can be used to blow
Lacquer is a
flammable material.
