3.
Press the "Measure" button.
The first distance and angle are measured and

5.
Press the "Measure" button.
The distance and angle of inclination are measured
and shown in the intermediate result line.
The target distance is calculated immediately and
shown in the result line.
7.6.4 Indirect Vertical Distance II (2 angles, 1
distance)
This function is useful in situations where a distance
requires to be measured but a target point is not reflec-
tive (e.g. a crane). Follow the graphical display, which
indicates the distance and angle to be measured. After
measuring the necessary angle of inclination and the dis-
tance, the result is calculated and shown in the result
line.
1.
Select the Indirect Vertical Distance II function from
the Indirect Measurement group.
2.
Aim the range meter at the target.
3.
Press the "Measure" button.
The first distance and the angle of inclination are
measured and shown in the intermediate result line.
The graphic display then automatically prompts you
to measure the second angle of inclination.
4.
Aim the range meter at the target.
NOTE With the aid of the optical sight the tool can
be aimed accurately at a non-reflective target even
at great distance.
5.
Press the "Measure" button.
The angle of inclination is measured and displayed
in the intermediate result line.
The target distance is calculated immediately and
shown in the result line.

7.7 Special functions

7.7.1 Outdoor measuring mode
NOTE
When using outdoor measuring mode, accuracy is re-
duced by ± 0.8 in at a distance of 30 ft or more.
The use of laser range meters outdoors is severely re-
stricted by bright sunlight and over great distances.
14
In particular, it becomes more difficult to measure long
distances as the range meter requires more time to com-
plete the measurement.
In outdoor measuring mode the accuracy of measure-
ment is reduced to ± 0.8 in but this results in significantly
faster measurement. It therefore becomes possible to
take measurements over long distances in bright condi-
tions.
In outdoor measuring mode the colors in the display are
reversed in order to make it obvious that the tool is in this
mode and to make the display more clearly legible. The
display is then black and the measurements are shown
in white.
7.7.2 Inclination function
NOTE
The reference surface for the inclination sensor is the
underside of the tool (battery compartment).
The current inclination is shown graphically and numer-
ically when using the Inclination function. Depending on
how the angle units are configured in the settings, the
current inclination is shown in degrees, percent, mm/m
or in/ft. If you press the "Measure" button when using
this function, the current angle of inclination is saved.
7.7.3 Painter's Area
The Painter's Area function is used, for example, to
determine the surface area of the walls in a room. This
is done by determining the total length of all walls and
multiplying this figure by the height of the room.
1.
Select Painter's Area from the group of special func-
tions.
2.
Aim the tool at the target to measure the first room
length.
3.
Press the "Measure" button.
The first distance is measured and displayed in the
intermediate result line.
4.
Aim the tool at the target for the next room length
and press the "Measure" button to take the mea-
surement.
The second distance is measured and displayed in
the intermediate result line. The intermediate result
shown in bold is the total of the room lengths.
5.
Repeat this procedure until all room lengths have
been measured.
6.
When all room lengths have been measured, press
the right arrow button to switch to room height.
7.
Confirm by pressing the "Measure" button.
